Good speargun for a beginner??

That makes sense. Different conditions require different weapons, including the size of your billfold. I've heard the "production quality for custom price" gig a few times, but that's when the gun is bought new. I guess we just mess with different fish in different ways. Hahaha I guess what I am attempting to do is simply unachievable. I still stand by my gun, I always will, when it retires, I'm not selling it, it's going to go on a rack in my office. Hahaha

Give it some time, you may find something more suitable to your hunting style in the future and sell that Riffe you have.. you never know Just remember though, one gun is never enough haha

Mostly personal preference on that
closed reloads a little quicker and easier
Some guys like the view the open gives them
shooting into holes and such you could possibly blow out the muzzle when a fish goes nuts (happened to a friend, never happened in years of use with mine)
I love the closed ones to be honest

take the drive down to florida freedivers in palm beach and handle them in person and see what you think will work best for you. I prefer closed but have used open muzzles on the reef.

Be careful with that one josh. You just made a recommendation on enclosed v/s open muzzle for a south Florida diver based in your experience from ca. In south fl most of the spearing is done on tanks not freediving. I don't know which the op does? Also most guys there do not use line shafts they free shaft. The vis is usually very good and the ground fish hole up when shot. To free shaft he would need the closed muzzle or enclosed track. Just though I would take my chance to get in a jab

Also magnets inlaid in muzzle, takes about 5 seconds with a dremmel

What brand dremmel do you recomend for a first time dremmeler?

Seriously though, I recomend a cheap used pipe gun from the classifieds for your first gun. if you want to sell it later you'll probably get about the same amount out of it.
Last time i was back in the states I picked up a mako 100cm predator pro gen 1 with a spare shaft for 200$, the guy threw in a mesh bag and some cheapo long fins that got sold to a spearo here for 25$.
It has become my go to gun after having the handle replaced with the gen 2 handle. The gen 1 handles have a problem when you add a reel IMO so watch out for that. the gen 2 handles do not.

Incorrect, freeshafting is much more popular on the gulf side of florida. I know a few divers that do freeshaft over here, myself included but for the most part we lineshaft. And theres alot of freediving, if not more then scuba shooters in soFl. Most of the serious freedivers are working out 60 feet or deeper.

RA are great guns.
