JBL Woody 38 special VS AB Biller 36 Special Mahogany
Which gun should I get? I'm hoping to be able to trade in my cressi geronimo elite mimenico for either gun (had it for a couple weeks and hate it) both guns are similar in appearance, features, price range, etc so I leave it up to you guys to advise me which gun I buy as I like both of them. Mainly customer support is a huge factor as well as just how accurate and smooth both guns are.
Thanks a bunch guys

Both too small in my opinion for florida waters. Id go 48 Biller, I had several JBLs in the past and didnt like em. AB Biller/Seahornet guns are straight workhorses and keep on killin.

Biller is great but try out one of the JBL elites solid bomb proof trigger (3piece).
Loading the spear takes a little effort but thats only because of the 3piece trigger, it kinda acts as a fulcrum. I own 2 of them and they work great. I would also mention that i'm from the Caribbean and i dive every weekend religiously. My elites have never let me down... my 2cents.. |

Go for a 48' rino will last forever and look like new. I put enough lead in the but of the gun so that with the spear out it stands on end.Easy to find and does'nt float away

Re: JBL Woody 38 special VS AB Biller 36 Special Mahogany
I've had my 38 for about a year now. All I have done is replace the band's with 5/8s. Problem with the two guns you are talking about is that they are both small. You have to be closer than 10 feet to really do any damage to a fish. So your really going to only kill hogs and red groupers. I would save up for a bigger gun, like I'm doing

I have a biller 32 i use in lower vis/around rocks and i love it. Great power and accuracy to shoot smaller fish and definatly a work horse as previously stated. Never owned a JBL so i cant comment on them.

Re: JBL Woody 38 special VS AB Biller 36 Special Mahogany
Unless you are diving for small fish, in shallow water that has bad visibility, I think you will be disappointed in both of those guns.... they are just too small to deliver the range wou will want when the water is reasonably clear.
If you have to do a trade, maybe that is your only option..I have had good luck with Biller and I know for an absolute fact that their customer service is top notch. In the past I have had issues with trigger mechanism from an old gun, I bought used. The company (Mr. Biller) went out of his way to help me out. I also recall an incident where I got a SS (Biller) pipe gun caught in the props of a boat, (guess who won that battle?) and I sent in a mangled gun and they replaced the barrel very quickly for what I thought was a reasonable price. I would sell the gun you hate and find a longer one.

Re: JBL Woody 38 special VS AB Biller 36 Special Mahogany
I have the AB Biller 36 now and wish i went bigger for sure. But its still a nice Gun smooth, accurate and reliable. Needless to say i did infact loss 2 nice size fish on wednesday because it didnt punch through at 12-15 feet away. very frustrating. so max rang on thicker fish is about 8-10 feet.

Re: JBL Woody 38 special VS AB Biller 36 Special Mahogany
the mimetico's trigger mech keeps jamming the flat metal wishbone cut my finger open when the band slipped out of my hand and for a single sling gun the butt pad is waaayyy too small and cressi dosen't offer any way to make it bigger (like mako does)
