Question JBL mini carbines & neah bay

I am considering purchasing a JBL mini carbine, a D7 to be specific. Its cheap very short and is said to shoot around 9 feet. This sounds perfect as a starter gun and I will hopfully order one within the next few weeks. The reviews were mixed but I expected that considering its a 80 dollar gun. If you have heard anything positive about these guns or negative I woud be very gracious for some feed back.

Secondly I am hoping to head out to neah for a weekend sometime soon and I was wondering how the vis has been. Obviously this varies a ton but if its been good latley I might try to hurry up the trip or vise versa.

Any feed back really helps.

Thanks.

I wouldnt recommend it, if your looking for a cheap starter gun, get the cressi commanche 60, its about 90 bucks from joediveramerica.com. I used it at neah last year and it will kill rockfish and lings, shaft is only 6mm but it gets the job done with plenty of power.

I strongly second Johnsonmj81 here. I was going to recommend the same gun same length. I've started using the 75 recently, but it's a little long for those murky days and jetty dives. The 60 is a great gun and has much more accuracy, distance, and is better constructed. The only thing you want to be aware of is that the nice thin fast shaft is also more easily broken.

The carbine series is junk. Cressi is better in the price range. Maybe you could spend a little more and buy a mako predator?

Started with a Carbine, not sure what the point of the mini is, they are both pretty crappy. Only thing good is the price, but for $90, that cressi cant be beat.

Get somthing different, I bought one as a toy to get my nephew to think about spearfishing when we was 10. He literally had his spear bounce off a bass at 4 feet.

im a big fan of my hammerhead proteus. be sure to get it with an oxide flopper shaft. fairly good and not too expensive.

Viz last week at Neah was 20' at the Wadah fingers and 30' near Cape Flattery. The flood was better than the ebb.

Re: JBL mini carbines & neah bay

I have the cressi 60 for jetty spearing and it's accurate ,fast and has power behind it and it can't be beat for the price. I started off with an jbl explorer 20 and carbine series and had many bounced shafts, when I got the cressi it was a huge difference.
