Re: Advice on gear for Cortes Bank trip
That's right WD which is why we were in Mexican waters at the time, just a little past the outer banks. But thanks for monitoring us spearo's from your computer.

Re: Advice on gear for Cortes Bank trip
Good word there as it can save a diver who doesn't know a ticket and maybe save their life too..... Swordfish are mean and built to kill!

Re: Advice on gear for Cortes Bank trip
Kind of interesting that you can harpoon a sword but can't spear it.
Thanks for the report, sounds like an amazing trip. |

Quote:
28.95. SPEARS, HARPOONS AND BOW AND ARROW FISHING TACKLE. Spears, harpoons and bow and arrow fishing tackle may be used for taking all varieties of skates, rays, and sharks, except white sharks. Such gear may not be possessed or used within 100 yards of the mouth of any stream in any ocean waters north of Ventura County, nor aboard any vessel on any day or on any trip when broadbill swordfish or marlin have been taken. It annoys me because I feel like it's just the recreational fishermen being somewhat barred from using a resource and the only/most plausible reason I can come up with is that the commercial swordfishers lobbied for it. I can't think of any other reason why recreational fishermen would be so expressly limited by the laws regarding a commercially valuable fish. If a rec guy wants to build a plank off his bow and try to stick swordies, I can see no good reason why the law should forbid it. It's bad enough when the law bends to the will of the highest bidder, but I'm particularly sensitive about it when it involves ocean resources. Re: Advice on gear for Cortes Bank trip
We recommend a 75' Pressure Pro floatline with integrated bungee along with a neptonics clutch and any number of floats we stock. Give us a call at the long beach store, drop by if it's in your hood or have a look at our range online at the link below.
Ask for Jerry, 562-343-7827 if you call. We'll take care of you.
