Yes, practice viewing known structure so you can get a feel for what you know it's seeing. Also, run the zoom out twice the depth of the water your running. A friend clued me in on that and it makes a big difference. If you're running a transom mount you will likely need to fabricate a spray shield Not really to difficult to do if you need it.

Kmoose, aside from the obvious illustrative differences, what is the difference between both sides?

And the side vü performs best in calm waters and in a straight line, you will notice that it tends to smear the image when you turn

Sorry for the late response...the Lowrance went with the boat I sold and I've removed & sold the Furuno & old Garmin out of the "new" boat. I'll post some bottom pics from the new unit shortly.

Re: Need to upgrade bottom machine & plotter --- suggestions???
1,2,9 & 10 are the Pensacola bridge and bridge rubble. In 9 & 10 you can see where I went through the draw bridge (symmetrical markings close to the boat) then turned parallel and ran over the old rubble. The shallow depths, calm conditions and known rubble field made it show up nicely.
3, 4 & 11 are random hardbottom natural limestone ledges/reefs. Typical of what we see and dive in the area. In 11, I can kinda make out what might be a ledge running perpendicular to my path. I'm trying to get better using this feature to better delineate ledges. This isn't the best example and I've seen some more pronounced ledges show up this way. If anyone has advise on how to see ledges better, I'm all ears. 5,6,7,8 are all Stage 2 a public inshore site that should look like an old oilfield structure with legs that was blown up and laid down on the bottom. The last two are not the best quality (due to file size) but show a bridge span. The cool thing here was that this came from a sonar recording. I'm still playing with the software but you can theoretically create waypoints from a sonar recording (when you get home) using the software which would be helpful to delineate the ends of a long structure like a big ship, or bridge span. Cool stuff. Now if I can only get this pesky touch screen issue fixed.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AvPp4Krug0 After using the unit for a few hours, the sonar screen will freeze up and not allow me to create a waypoint from a bottom feature, a real PITA. I've reached out to Garmin for support, we'll see what they say.
