Need to upgrade GPS

I want to upgrade my Garmin GPS and hummingbird fish finder both are older models and i need a new GPS with charts on screen as my model has none. I am looking for a combo unit these are the two I came up with.

Check out the new Lowrance products. The HDS Gen II touch are bad ass. Large color touch screen, depth finder and structure scan (underwater imaging) built in to the unit. All you need is to choose the right transducers for your use.

West Marine has the Garmin 740 for $1100 right now. I really like mine.

Ha, I'm also looking at that 581 unit. Since I'm colorblind, no sense in me spending more money on color...
I'd also be interested in seeing what people had to say.
Also, if anyone has any comments on how well it works with a DSC radio (NMEA), that would be great as well.

Re: Need to upgrade GPS

I have two humminbirds on my boat: 597ciHD and 797c2. The down imaging is awsome but I'm not real certain that it would stack up against the Raymarine Grasshopper with the CHIRP technology. If you plan on buying a navionics card in the future, be sure that the new units software will support it. My 797c2 works with the card but has a memory size problem. The sideshooter has found structure that I would have missed before so I highly recommend it to all. There has been an issue with the humminbird creating it's own waypoints and then the unit will shutdown.... scrambles it's little brain. You need to go into your waypoints and look for weird looking coordinates and delete them, then it will work fine. Their support team clued me onto this.
Hope this helps.
