Humminbird Shutting off Issues

My bird was turning itself off and then back on by itself. I checked all the dumb stuff such as the connections, etc. but could not find an obvious problem so I called the bird people. What they told me was hard to fathom but turned out to be accurate. The bird has a habit of creating false waypoints, especially if you have waypoints in there for some time. You need to go thru and look for waypoints that have weird symbols such as#,@,&. You get the point. My unit made up waypoints that where nowhere near my area, like down in south Fla. I found 5 bogus points and deleted them and now the unit works like a new bird. The unit is a 797C2 that's about four years old.
I hope that this bit of info will help someone.

Wow. Never woulda thought of that.

Its nice to know the company cares enough about their customers to sort out such a problem. Glad I bought a Humminbird (haven't installed it yet...).

Re: Humminbird Shutting off Issues

I actually have two birds on my boat. One is 797C2 that is the side sonar and the newer down imaging 597 ci HD. Both units are worth the investment. One feature that I really like is the fact that you can put it into simulator mode and make all the adjustments to suit your style and those changes are saved so when you go out, you know how the bird is going to work. I do like the new chirp technology in the Raymarine but will watch it a while before making the plunge.
