Polespear choice

Hello spearos I would like to get myself a polespear but I am on a tight budget. I’d like something that I can travel with and I’d like to start using sliptip so I could use it perhaps for stripers? Any suggestions? - thanks

If you are on a tight budget, wait until you have more money. If you try to go the cheap way, you will end up buying a cheap stick. Then you will miss fish because of lack of power, lose them because they will tear themselves out... and then you will end up buying a proper stick. I did exactly that.

If you want to target stripers, you will need a slip tip, a floatline and a float.

I have a Headhunter Predator nomad roller and I use it with a float. Works like a charm. Costs 460$ plus float and line...

When I hit a big striper, I just let go of the polespear. Much less chance of tearing this way. The slip tip helps too.

Just my 2cents - I bought cheapest stick from Amazon, and it was waste of $30
I was not able to shot anything with it at all. It's just doesn't go. I never used proper pole spear, and cannot compare, but suspect it should be very different experience.

I don't think you could replace the roller with a regular setup. But then I don't see why you would want to do that. It is not more complicated or anything...

If you want less power, you could always stretch the band less. Of course it's overkill for those dumb fresh water fish.

Please take a look at our pole spear selection. For large powerful fish and when using a slip tip, you are going to want a reasonably powerful pole spear. You probably won't be happy buying an inexpensive spear.

Perhaps the MAKO Big Game Traveler spear would be within your budget. It breaks down for traveling, is very robust and you can use a slip tip if desired.

You can purchase a CF spear, and then switch out the roller end with a standard butt, if you wanted that option as well
