Are the tog late to the party this year?
Hey guys, the title pretty much says it all. Been having a hard time finding any Tog around the south shore of Massachusetts so far this year. Have other people noticed a slow start this year?

Last weekend I had the good fortune to meet a Dem officer as I was landing my kayak. We had a nice discussion about the status of the fishery. It appears that the scientists believe that tautog are at risk and I learned that they have been given a special designation, allowing protective action to be elevated above many other fish. My personal experiences this year concerning tog are in direct contrast to the scientists, but who am I to contradict the experts.

I also noticed slow action in RI waters this spring, however I believe the water temperature was lower this year. It looks fine now (mean plenty of togs).

Ya, it's still around 55° on the south shore, might just be a bit cold still.
