Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
Is it better to mount a Gopro on your gun or wear it on your head with the head strap?

Head mount. You can film your partner or other things you don't want to shoot.

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
Gun, screw the head mount it's awesome out of water but when your diving through kelp you get all tangled up. I had an experience about 2 months ago where my go pro got tangled in the kelp at the bottom and I lost the camera. Long story short I don't think the head mount is a safe choice unless you want to drop another $300

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
Head mount is great, but expect to film something awesome at some point and then realize the camera was not pointing where you thought it was pointing
Also, it takes much more discipline to get get steady shot using the head mount.

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
Definitely head mount.
As said, you can film stuff like your buddies. I mean I guess you could do this with a gun mount, but they prob won't be a your buddy anymore. You may miss something you would have liked to film if you're not paying attention to where the camera is aimed, but I am willing to bet that you will miss clips with it attached to the gun since you have to swing that at a scene once it has your attention. If you main purpose is filming only, I wouldn't go with the head mount. |

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
I've been using a head mount for my last dozen dives. It's worked well, though my head is always scanning from side to side, top to bottem etc. I've recently added a gun mount to test the quality/ movement. Totally trial and error

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
I guess it depends if your diving in heavy kelp or not. In heavy kelp I think a gun mount is better, not so much kelp mount it to your head.

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
You can hear the camera when it turns on and off. I have it set to automatically record when I turn it on. The beeps are different when you turn the camera on or off so you can tell when it's recording.

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
I Just bought the recently released wrist mount for the hero 3, but haven't used it yet.
Anyone have any input on it? Thanks! Scotty

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
Head mount!! I mounted mine to my mask so anywhere I look is on film unlike the easy to screw up head strap. I just turn it on when getting in the water and film the whole dive... Well until the batt dies. My buddy kelpstalker got my avatar with his head mount strap.

Re: Gopro - Head or Gun Mount?
Ive seen some videos by Dan Silveira that are pretty decent quality, and I think the camera is built into the mask, reducing the chance of it getting snagged up. The camera is made by Liquid Image. Anybody try them?
