Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

DB, thanks for the report. In a few days gags will be closed. With the winter fronts, cold water, closed seasons and my older age. I'm done diving till spring. I can remember the days when everything was open all year. Diving in 25'-60' water during the winter with 51F-55F bottom temps. while wearing a 5 mil farmer john wet suit. My older Swedish brother in law now has a Buddy heater in his deer blind in upper Michigan. Says his internal body heater doesn't work as good as in his younger days.

Rogers on that Sharpshooter. With Gags, ARS, and AJ’s all closed I am likely done for the next several months as well. I have a group of younger guys that dive with me and they don’t seem to mind the cold. I’ll let them handle the “underwater” catching and I’ll stick to the warmer “rod and reel” catching.

Rogers on that Kevin. I used a battery heated vest this year deer hunting up north. Has 3 heat levels. Worked great. Going to try it out rod n reel fishing this winter.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Out Monday 12/28 N of Egmont Channel. Temp was 57 degrees. Hit 30' first, viz was less than 10' and not very fishy. Headed out to 55.' Viz improved to 15-20 but damn, that water was too cold for my 3mil. Hanging up my gear until March.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Lisa & I went out yesterday with 2 shooters 1/31. Vis was 5ft to 15ft in 50 off of Eggmont
Water temp on the surface 63. Bottom 60.
gags everywhere of course. Our crew shot some dinner hogs and some Sheepshead for our local tournament.
Not going again locally till spring. Way to cold. Was pretty rough too.
Headed to east coast next week to get a few bugs.

WoW..3 mil suit...!
I do a 2-3 mill in the SUMMER TIME! This time of year its a 7 Mil for me, and that's only because I have unlimited HOT water on my boat!
Hats off to you and your 3 mil suit!

Glad to have you aboard David. Although vis was great, we struggled to find legal size fish all day. However, there were plenty of legal size Gags and even a few nice AJ’s showed up but we couldn’t take any of those. However, it was a great day on the water, the boat ran great, everyone came home safe, and we still got a few fish for the freezer.

Out of Clearwater pass February 28, 2021. Viz was 30 to 40' to start the day. Temperature 66. Dove in 35 to 45 feet of water. Ended up with dozen Hog, ten or so mango, couple big Sheep head. Still lot of current in am like on Fri from full moon. Calmer day. Beautiful day. Got fish both days. Good long weekend. Bring on March.

No moon jellies like there were all over the place Fri down further S. Again, some big gags.
