Large Dive Flag
Anyone know where to find a good quality jumbo sized dive flag, either online or in the San Diego area? I want to tie it up on a piece of pvc and stand up in a rod holder on my 15 ft whaler. Too many close calls the last few years; don't want to keep playing the odds game.
Thanks in advance, -Tim |

Re: Large Dive Flag
Honestly..it wont do any good. Most of the boaters dont even know what a dive flag is...and then they come in even closer to try and see it!
What we need is an actual "drivers license" to operate a boat...and THEN MAYBE they will be educated in all this good shit!!! |

Re: Large Dive Flag
yeah... I get it. I've watched props fly over my head while in the middle thick kelp, while on the edge of a large kelp bed 10 yards from my anchored boat with no visible people on it and a small flag up, while 20 yards outside of breaking waves and a pack of surfers with some kelp around, while diving very close to both my anchored boat with small flag up and a rock pinnacle well known to be a prop hazard, and all other types of scenarios that make you doubt there are any solutions to the problem.
Just hoping a much larger flag makes it easier on the few who do know what it means and improves my odds a little more in my favor. 3x5 ft would probably work well for my situation. I see a lot of large ones on boats when I'm out there that look nice, so was just wondering if anyone had a source where they got one and liked the product. There seems to be a lot variability in material/quality and it's difficult to tell what you're getting from most of the sh*t photos that online vendors post. |

Re: Large Dive Flag
Mandatory boater operator education is already in effect here in California. I haven’t taken the course yet so I don’t know if it includes dive flag instructions. If it does, then it should really be helpful for purposes of diver safety.
...and then again, I almost got chopped in half by the San Pedro, LA Lifeguard boat while diving 40’ from my boat and clearly flying a dive flag.

Re: Large Dive Flag
I got a 3x5 off amazon, holding up great after two seasons. Some people mock the size but maybe they'll reconsider their words after a close call of their own

Re: Large Dive Flag
I recently bought a really nice, high quality large dive flag from EBay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/JCS-Heavy-N...MAAOSwuMFUcIH5 Mine was the size I listed in the link above
