My freedive fins suck
I was in marathon this weekend and wanted to try out some freediving. I went to sombrero reef just because I'm new to this and wanted something shallow. I was on the outside where it was a little deeper, maybe 20 - 25ft, and I had no problem getting to the bottom and managing about a minute plus on the bottom. I was using seac s800 shout fins that i got a few months ago and found it easier to get to the bottom without fins than using these. They seemed to make me feel more buoyant and just awkward. Long story short I have grown out of these fins and I don't really like them so what should I look for in a new pair?

Re: My freedive fins suck
if you plan to keep freediving... long blade fins. if your just starting and not serious about depth plastic blades work fine you can also wear them on scuba it makes a hell of a difference. also be properly weighted and that will help out a bunch.
as for fins, theres plenty of companies out there that supply good fins. i would suggest if its your first pair, going and trying them on. forget about the open heel as well. plastic blades will be a soft action, so its easy on you ankles and legs. using scuba fins especially split fins are not good for freediving, you see a huge difference in speed and less energy being used to dive! hope that helps you out a bit. |
