Your dive boat has new fire Extinguisher Regs..
...Survival 101: New regs effective Aprll 20, 2022, require boat owners to replace all fire extinguishers over 12 years old from date of manufacture. It is required on all boats with permanently installed fuel tanks or compartments where fumes might get trapped. Aside from sinking, fire is the next most likely issue that will put you in the water...No extinguisher is requred on boats that use portable fuel tanks and lack compartments that can hold vapors. Yet, it is wise to carry one...you just might save another mariner's boat..When purchasing, look for a label stating, "Marine type-USCG approved", along with the date of manufacture.
...While on the topic of survival, it is prudent to replace fuel hoses and clamps that are 10 years old. Time will take it's toll, usually 20 miles out to sea..It is also recommended to use two stainless hose clamps at each location, with the clamps offset so that if saltwater rusts out one clamp, the other may hold...Aahhh, the joys of boat ownership! Moral: One hour of prevention is better than 6 hours of swimming home... ... Last edited by Bob Ballew; 04-24-2022 at 12:29 AM. |
