Re: ULUSUB gun + reel + shaft + bag $200 obo
Sorry, I just got Back. Managed to jump in for a look around @ 120 miles out. There was some incredible Purple Water 76 degrees, but after filling the boat with 700lbs of Yellowfin in two hours on Rod and Reel, and with 75lb+ Yellowfin and some Huge Big Eyes busting surface around us, we jumped in along a Temperature break with not perfectly clear 73 degree water. Chummed it up heavy. With about 50' of visibility, I saw some shimmering down by our drifting chum and lined up my 172cm 4 Band Shot Placer. As I descended into better view I thought man.. that is a Big fish!. And as I got a little closer, I realized it was a 10' Hammerhead and it wasn't alone. We retreated and saved ourselves to battle another day.
So I just heard about this. I could fix that gun in a few hours. It's not an easy fix, But you could cut some flats onto that area and match them with a Teak Face. Putting something like an L of teak in place. I've fixed a few guns with similar damage from Propellers or if a fixture fails during routing. Or you could make a fiberglass fiber/woodust epoxy patch. but the gun could get heavier. That was one of a few guns we made a while back with 2 3mm Carbon Fiber Stringers in them. I figure it's a $200 fix to fix it with a wooden plug to match, but a quick and easy fix if you make an Epoxy Patch. Sad story, but you are probably better off. That's kind of ****ed up to attack a handmade wooden Speargun.

Re: ULUSUB gun + reel + shaft + bag $200 obo
Kerry thanks to remind me of this. I had this gun sitting here to repair and forgot about it. So, I did some work on it today.
I was going to just use a mix of Epoxy, Teak dust, and fillers and make a composite Fill, but some of the cuts were pretty deep so I wanted to remove all of the compromised structure and plug with Teak. First I gave a scuff with 100grit to take off any humps and see what was going on. One part was deeper than the other and I removed a few chips of metal from when the hatchet blade hit the Carbon Fiber stringers.. must have hurt.. Rather than removing the entire piece to the depth of the deepest cuts, I opted for a two stage plug. Tomorrow I'll be able to shape and sand uniform with the stock.

What an awesome resurrection story. Make sure to kill a big fish with it and post it on social media after it's done.
You know she's out there still stalking you, so need need to worry about her seeing it. |

When you get that gun back, it will be better than new, because now it has a back story!
Fortunately, the gun is so muscular, it wears scars very well! |
