1st-Ever Speargun shot today :-) nailed a 7-pounder
(OP) - Got my Riffe MT1S 38" gun yesterday , ... couldn't stand not trying it, so found some water that had at least 10' visibility - tough to find right now with all the storms. First shot nailed a bullseye at 10', nice 7 pounder... (Ok sorry that was a troll ;-)... sand-filled detergent jug 7 pounder that is. Aimed at the little blue graphic on the label.
....On to more serious gun report... Riffe MT1S 38" gun with wing kit, rated for 14' range. 5/16" shaft 6mm thread, but rejected the Riffe-standard 42" length got a 34" shaft instead for better maneuvering. Gun comes std with three 9/16"x18" bands (stretch to 28"), but after some reading did this first trial with just 2 bands. Used JBL Rotating Rocktip, which has a rounded point. (The other tip I got, the JBL Rotating Tri-tip, is much sharper.) Penetration at 10' was pretty good I think. Went through the tough detergent jug plastic (gill plate-ish?) and 5" of dense wet coarse sand and 10" out the other side (denser than fish flesh). Recoil was quite easy. The wing kit made balance nice. Didn't try any buoyancy tests. Didn't try no-target 14' tug test. Maybe next outing. Caveat - I have no other gun experience to compare to. Leigh |

Re: Introduction, need spear buddies
You done good! You gonna love dat gun! (little ghetto lingo there) Can't wait to see you drill a real fish, but plastic jug practice is important to reduce misses when the real thing comes along. Practice makes perfect (or almost perfect - Josh is the only perfect shot around here)
