Re: Cape Town Yellowfin Tuna Open Tournament
Hi guys
Got the below e-mail from Craig the tournament organizer. He asked me to post it! Craig: Just a quick one we must get the competitors to give us their loved ones email addresses so we can email pics and keep them posted on tournament activities on a daily basis. As well as if they need to get hold of a competitor urgently they can send emails. Greg's really good at it and we can send the emails out from the club. Just another professional service from the tournament. So have those e-mail adresses of your loved one ready at registration please. Also bring your own camera cord so we can plug it into the computer. thx Cheer's AJ Craig Hagan

Re: Cape Town Yellowfin Tuna Open Tournament
it says that we need a fishing license in the rules, does anyone have information for us on how to obtain one from here prior to flying over.

Re: Cape Town Yellowfin Tuna Open Tournament
A wise man once said:
"...And being hooked hurts. Fish have very sensitive mouths, so it hurts badly when they are caught on hooks. " Which is why I choose to shoot them in the head with a spear. It's the right thing to do!

Looks like some nice boats. Are all the boats checked out for marine standards with EPIRBS and the normal safety gear? I remember from being there last year that it was pretty important to be in contact with the Penquin when leaving the point and noting when you returned. That can be one nasty ocean out there and the safety of all the divers will be of the utmost importance, along with the boat captain as well. Being on David Cristy's boat last year made me understand the importance of safety in that ocean when we were out on some really rough days. Eric

Re: Cape Town Yellowfin Tuna Open Tournament
Hi Eric
All the boats are part of the pool of boats that are used every year for the October Yellowfin angling competition which is a world renowned angling comp. So yes all the boats and skippers have 40 nautical miles boat and skippers certification. The captains all have years of experience in the deep of cape point. The captains might lack the experience with regards to handling divers, but that is why we have a skippers briefing on the 17'th of April with some of SA's best divers explaining Shallow water black outs et cetera. Also both diving days we will have a trauma doctor on the media boat as a back up with oxygen and National sea rescue will be on high alert. Any diving competitor is also welcome to be present at the skippers briefing. Hope that answers your question. AJ

Re: Cape Town Yellowfin Tuna Open Tournament
Hi guys
6 WEEKS TO GO!! Thought I'd include the tourament directors welcoming letter. Cheers AJ Tournament Coordinator In welcoming you to this tournament, a life-long dream has become a reality for many of us. A year ago it seemed wishful thinking that we’d ever have a blue water spear fishing tournament in South Africa. Yet today, we’re hosting an international competition. Welcome to the first ever Blue Water Yellow fin Tuna Spear fishing Tournament to be held in African waters! The organizing committee has gone to great lengths to ensure that your entry is rewarding and we trust that you will have an unforgettable experience both in and out the water. The consensus is that the tournament will be as successful as the rate of fish speared, so best of luck with diving and spearing the big ones! Lets all ensure the future of spear fishing by being ambassadors for the sport during the next few days. I did not realize the magnitude of a project of this nature until we started planning. However, every great idea requires a great deal of work and together with our committee of enthusiastic fellow spearo’s who gave up time, money and effort for sheer love of the sport, this project is now a reality . To the committee, and especially AJ Rabie, thanks for all the hours you put into making this tournament a world class event. Thank you also to the following supporters: The Chairman of Cape Boat and Ski Boat Club, Dolf Arenhold. To you, your committee and members. Thank you for your venue, commitment and all you did to assist us. The Boat Owners, without you this tournament would not have been possible. To Tiger Brands, a big thank you to Steve Hagan for distributing the fish through the Tiger Brand’s Unite Against Hunger initiative. To MCM, especially Craig Smith, for providing us with dispensation to donate the fish to Unite Against Hunger. Finally to all the Sponsors. You are the backbone of this tournament. Without your products and financial support, an event of this magnitude could never take place. Craig Hagan Tournament Coordinator
