Middlegrounds 7/17/21
Was fortunate enough to have an invite out the Middlegrounds!
Had a great time and got a lot of fish. Got my personal best red snapper at just over 18# and 32" and a 14.8# Hog that was 27". Lot of other fish and all 4 divers did well. Will sort through some video and see what may look good to post later. |

Sweet! Congrats on the PB. I need to get back out there. Any summer bull trouble out there?

Re: Middlegrounds 7/17/21
I had one sandbar come in on a top around 3:30 pm on dive 4 after we had shot the big hogs and a gag on the edge. I shot a yellowtail that pulled off the shaft. Typical sandbar active move in. He did not follow us up. We moved a bit and next diver did a solo dive and he said a shark was around his whole dive. He still shot 5 nice fish and had his most productive dive of the day. He did not identify species. Mine was a sandbar for sure

Thanks Jim.
We were moving around a lot Adam. 3-4 fish here. 5-6 fish there. Anywhere between 95 and 110 foot. Here's the 18# ARS video. |

Very smart doing a second shot on the ARS. So many guys get in a rush and grab the spear. Only to have the fish tear off and disappear. Looks like you had some really good vis. too.

Re: Middlegrounds 7/17/21
Yeah those "Double Taps" as Dan MacMahon calls them are super important on those larger fish especially if the shot placement was not optimal and the fish had run a ways. That second shot really puts a hurtin' on em'.

Nice job on the ARS. I'm interested in that tank / gun setup that's on video for a couple seconds at the beginning though. Would love to see a picture of the whole thing and how it's anchored.

That is a friends tank rack that Kevin heavily modified and it worked very well. All the intel is available, you just have to take us diving! LOL!
Will PM you. And thanks Jose. Appreciate the kind words. |

Re: Middlegrounds 7/17/21
Thanks Marcus and David. Great day out there. Here's the Hogfish video. I was really hoping for big Hogfish. Kevin dialed in the spot for Ben and me for our last dive. Ben got me in to diving 22 years ago, so really cool to have this dive with KB up top pulling the strings! Apologies in advance for the elation, but I get hyped up for the big Hogs!
