SB GUN SHOW! Show us your weapons!
We have miserable weather in southeast FL this weekend, so I'm bored.
How about a "show your guns" thread? If you don't mind, post a pic of your gun(s) and give make, model, freediving or scuba, and main purpose (reef, kelp, BW, etc). This could be an educational thread! Last edited by oto_gc; 03-12-2007 at 09:37 PM. |

Re: SB GUN SHOW! Show us your weapons!
I guess most people have seen mine more than they want to already, but here they are again. From left to right, Wong
50" hybrid with enclosed track and 9/32" shaft. 55" hybrid, open track and 9/32" shaft. 57.5" magnum hybrid, enclosed track and 5/16" shaft What was once a 60" regular hybrid with open track and 9/32" shaft, but modified with lead ballast and extra wood to become sort of like a magnum, but still has open track on the top. Also, butt extension of regular hybrids cut off, so no longer really 60" long. Ono gun, 60" long because it doesn't have the Alexander muzzle that makes current models 63" long. Enclosed track, 5/16" shaft Mahi gun, 57", enclosed track, 5/16" shaft. It has an Alexander muzzle like the one that a current ono gun would have. They are all used freediving, at least by me, and I guess you could say that they are all used in the kelp except for the ono gun, although a lot of people use guns that size in the kelp too. The reels are Aimrite, Rob Allen, Rob Allen, Riffe carbon fiber nylon, and older Riffe phenolic. Since the photo was taken, I've put another older Riffe on the ono gun, using those stainless inserts that you can see in the photo, but of course its easy to install and then remove as needed. Re: SB GUN SHOW! Show us your weapons!
this one is a work in progress, havnt taken ANYTHING with it since the new barrel, but thats how it goes sometimes (havnt even taken a shot at a fish with it)
100 cm purpleheart barrel beuchat mundial, shooting a 140cm 6.5mm beuchat spear, with dessault screw in 16mm bands. sometime i'll take a better pic of it, since that pic ive worked the barrel down a bit more to make it easier to turn in the water, still havnt mounted the reel on the gun, and i think i'll bring the barrel down just a bit more, the purpleheart seems pretty stiff, so taking off a few more cm shouldnt make it flex |

Re: SB GUN SHOW! Show us your weapons!
Sorry no pic but I have:
RA 140 (Bluewater gun) RA 120 (Kelp gun) RA 100 (Shore dive gun) Sporasub aspic 75 with RA muzzle. (Low viz gun) As you can see I like RA's. RA's might not be good for everyone but for me I've tried many guns and for my hunting style these are by far my favorites.

Re: SB GUN SHOW! Show us your weapons!
The pictures I have are not great, but here they are; The middle gun is the first gun I built. It did not come out that well, I over cut the trigger pocket, messed up the band slot, put the reel on crooked, did a poor job on the lamination... It was a learning experience. It is about 100cm laminated teak with an Alexander trigger and handle, even with all the problems I still like it, but I will probably build a new stock for it. The second gun I built is on the left. It is a 55” enclosed track laminated teak gun. It has four 9/16 bands tied into the stock like the seasniper guns so the bands are inline with the riffe 5/16 shaft. It has a very thin and wide stock and Alexander trigger and handle. I was trying to build a gun with built in full length wings. The riffe in the picture is my dad’s. The last picture is my personal favorite and the only picture I have of the gun. It is was a very short JBL. As a kid I made a mahogany stock for it and put a 3/8 NW special shaft on it. Then I broke the stock and used a piece of aluminum tubing I cut off a mop handle to make a new barrel for it. I had that gun for 10 years and killed more fish with it then any of my other guns I have owned. I got my first lingcod, first ling over 15 pounds, first limit of lings, first vermilion, first halibut with that POS. Needless to say I don’t use it any more, but I just can’t throw it away. Lets keep firearms out of this. I can’t even keep track of how many I have.

This is the only reason I can get away with it at all. Here she is on her nag in her first gymkhana competition a couple of weeks ago, racing against the teen-age girls. Room and board for that critter costs a lot more than monthly storage for my boat, and its always needing new shoes and shots. And if I don't use my boat, at least it doesn't need gas. Re: SB GUN SHOW! Show us your weapons!
Bill, Horses are indeed expensive. I had a ex-girlfriend who spent a fortune on them and her equestrian lifestyle.
But, boat ownership and spearing can be a similar bottomless pit for money. Heck...what is life for but to indulge in these pleasures!
