Do I need to remind you of what happens when you assume? There is harbor patrol and you're not allowed to spear inside the marina. You'll have a better chance on the outside anyway. However, FYI, halibut have been caught inside the marina,, I'm not sure at what depth.

Re: cabo in shore report

I got backencabo recently to find good diving conditions. I didn't see a lot of fish but they were there. One morning, after swimming around and not seeing much, I was watching 3 nice parrot fish and trying to decide wether to go after one. As I took a deep breath to get to the bottom at 12 feet, I noticed something spotted out of the corner of my eye. It was a Cabrilla and it was staring me down. It was on the sand in between two rock pinnacles. It kept staring at me as I slowly descended and I had to fight the urge to blast it in it's face. I hid behind one of the rock pinnacles and as I peered over it, I could see the cabrilla still staring at me. As I extended my arm to take the shot, that's when it stopped staring and turned to take off. Luckily it didn't bolt too fast and I got the shot off. It caved up about 10 feet down and it didn't take to much work to uncave it. Water temp was 79, air temp was 79 and the fish was less than 50 yards off the beach.

Re: cabo in shore report

Drbabs, I've been mostly stateside. I get to Cabo about once a month to check on things and eat fresh fish. I'm heading down today for five days so we'll have to try another time, but thanks. Here's some pics of what I ate on my last trip down.

For anyone else down there, I'll be near palmilla mar 13-20.

Re: cabo in shore report

Eric, WOW! That sounded like a good experience for the both of you. Uhmmm, did you happen to get the coordinates of that cave!!! Cool you went there for a dive. I've only been there a handfull of times. A couple times was with really good viz and I could see how big the area is. I mostly spend time on the backside of Palmilla which has kept me content through the years.
I too got squat today on the Pacific side. We did see fish though, and the swell was increasing along with the wind while we were out. Viz was kinda clear listerine green.

Drbabs, the trigger fish and black jack were both excellent. I got three meals off the trigger. It was tough as a filet. I cubed up the rest of it and sauted it in butter and garlic and it was really good,,,, the small chunks took care of the toughness. It's excellent in ceviche. The black jack I took to L.A., iced up in my carry on luggage. I cooked it whole and it fed three and there were leftovers.

Marco, gracias, that really was a nice cabrilla. It is my favorite fish to eat in these waters.

Pfish,,,,,, tis the SoCal season!!! I'll get a weight belt.

Palmilla pics, front side and back side.

no, no...different guy..this is a young guy..his dad if from main land mexico...Johnathan doesn't own a boat, does all his diving from shore...Give him a yell, he'll go with you...Actually he may have to go with you because his spots are behind well-to-do communities that have guard shacks. They know him and he has a repour with these guys...be prepared to walk and pack your gear some distance...well worth it if the water is right_ jonathan.jn.jn@gmail.com
