Considering we all share a mutual love for the hunt, I can appreciate someone who’s being real, genuine and gets to the point. As long as it’s polite. What I can’t stand is a guy who bull shits you before they ask.

I haven't tried the fish jerky recipe yet, only because my fish machaca recipe is sooooo easy.

Could have been Leo. I told him to go find his own beach.

Re: cabo in shore report

I got back into familiar waters after being out of town for five weeks. Walked off the beach into clear 72 degree water. I was worried about my aim after not taking a shot for so long. My first easy test was on three sierra mackerel that slowly cruised by me. I aimed, fired and then missed, hit it high on the back. I noticed barely a divot below its dorsal as it swam off and disappeared. Next, I followed a ten lb cabrilla across the sand until it arrived at some rocks, It turned to face me and it waited. I dove down to meet it at 20 feet and missed another easy shot. I reloaded as it waited for me to take another shot,,, and I missed again. I swam around for another 30 minutes wondering wtf, until I found an easier target. A greybar grunt, shot 6 inches away from the tip of my spear in 10 feet of water. Feeling confident, I swam out to deeper water. I swam around for another 30 minutes until I found a big school of grunts on the bottom at 30 feet with one decent sized cabrilla hidden in the bunch. It quickly swam off. After floating a good while above the grunts, I started to scale and gut my fish hoping that might create some action. It didn't seem to work and as I started to swim away I notice a mass of scaly bodies and fat tales to my right. I dove down to avoid the surface shot and could see a tightly bunched school of pargo, about 15 to 20 feet away. They saw me and came at me like a stampede. When they were five feet away, they turned and I took the shot and it held perfectly. It tried to go into the rocks but I wouldn't let it get close. It put up a good fight and pulled me under a few times. After getting the Pargo onto the beach, I completely forgot about the earlier misses. It was a nice fish. Most likely a pargo colorado. It didn't have the teeth like the dogtooth pargo and the color was a bright red. Still worried about my aim though.

Beautiful Fish. That's definitely a Pargo Colorado.

I love this thread. Please keep the reports coming.

Thanks for the replies! I still have the vision etched in my mind of the school of pargos coming at me.

One was for sure. The other two I couldn't see how I missed. I think it's time to change the bands on my gun.

I took one of the fillets to a restaurant a few hours later and they prepared it three different ways. My favorite was the appetizer. They called it ceviche, but explained that it was more like tar-tar. It was served on a fried plantain and topped of with strips of jicama.

Re: cabo in shore report

I will try with the pics whEn I get back home tonight. I didn't end up fishing down by Cabo San Lucas. I got those two game fish up north by Los barrieles Anywhere up by there seems to be good. Just look for pionts on the beach that have structure out from them. North of there is punto pedescaro (I'm slaughtering the spelling). Out a rough dirt road but bueatiful buetiful beach and great fishing. wind was up a lot and vis never got much better than 25 to 30 feet at best but there were fish to had for sure we just shore dove an. Swam out. Only a small current one day to deal with. It was so much fun!

Re: cabo in shore report

Some Pics. Sorry they are rotated. Each one was shot with a new gun I put in the water that day. (Mako 90 cm and 130cm) Not my best shooting but I landed them and ate them. So its all good. Besides these you could shoot grunt, yellow belly trigger, parrots, and cabrilla all day. My buddy killed a real nice cabrilla. I would go out a ways on a clearer day with a flasher setup or chum the water with some other fish and try to get the yellowtail to come in. That fish was shot at 7:00 in the morning to. Don't know but they might come in closer earlier in the day.
