Re: Worldwide Spearing Regulations Websites
Hi Quetzal,
great work you are doing. In my humble opinion, a spearo who plan to do spearfishing as a tourist in a foreign country, needs basic info about reg however the country: 1) Is there reg or not? If no, in Africa some countries does'nt have any... 2) If yes: -The licence: national or "provincial"( some federal countries Brasil, Canada, US..)? is it mandatory: medical exam? personal insurance? over 16 year old (travel with kids!)? where do I get the licence? coast? -The restrictions: only freediving... or not ? only at the day ? number/weight of fish per day ? using a torch? (caves) species protected ? selling the fish? areas protected ? Thank's for giving me you feed back! |

Thanks but this has grown from just an idea I had. I never intended to be in charge of this. And would be happy to pass it on to someone else. It started when I was looking for regs on the Caymans, spent considerable effort getting official verification, along with a lot of official looking bogus info. Since I had spent so much time researching the regs I thought it would be nice to pass on the info. I agree with you that you need to know the rules before you go out spearing anywhere. The problem I see is hearsay, and old regs. See my dilemma here http://www.spearboard.com/showthread...ghlight=cayman. So thats the reason I write warning not official when it applies. But what you do, posting your knowledge and understanding of the regs in various places, is great. I wish more people would be more generous in sharing the info they come across.

Re: Worldwide Spearing Regulations Websites
Observe everywhere that rules changes about spearfishing becoming more stict including a ban ( for ex: Djibouti). The oposite evolution does'nt exist...

Re: Worldwide Spearing Regulations Websites
i don't have a link but in malaysia it is legal to spear with or without scuba. you need a lic. from the goverment.
heres the big but though all lic. are frozen since the mid 90's.(seems people where doing drive bys on the street) so if you have a lic you are grand fathered in. if not you find people who do are you do it illegealy not recommended. large fine of 1000 usd. there is a group on yahoo that is from malaysia and does spear and will bring people along with them. they have the lic. to spear and the guns.

Re: Worldwide Spearing Regulations Websites
This is great stuff! I'm trying to get a draft law that will regulate spearfishing in Romania, none available now which leave lots of room for misunderstanding from others (e.g. line fishermens) or downright to the discretion of the Police, if they find you with a speargun in the water!
I am posting separately a thread on what i need specifically, any help very welcome. Once again, excellent work done to put together this information! Serge |

Re: Worldwide Spearing Regulations Websites
Hi Allen,
Before writing my first message to the site, I would like to say Hello to you from Turkiye. Regarding Spearfishing in Turkiye, the one you attached is a regulation for professional fishers not for spearfishing, and there is no possibility to spearfish for professional purposes ın Turkiye. So could you please change wrong regulation with the right one as: http://rega.basbakanlik.gov.tr/eskil...20060824-7.pdf And It is in Turkish unfortunately. If you need any parts to be traslated I may be pleased to do so. Thanks Guven
