Fin suggestions for high viz surface hunting fervid
I know there's already way too many fin threads here, but I haven't quite figured out exactly what would work best for me.
Almost all my spearing is in the Bahamas, so warm water, no wetsuit, all free diving. We cover a LOT of area on the surface however, scoping different parts of the reef since structure is so extensive over there. We are fairly new to freedive spearing (5-6 years experience) but have pretty extensive scuba experience beforehand and are in pretty good shape. Since the visibility is so high we can hunt 30-50 foot of water from the surface. What kind of fins would you guys suggest that won't wear me out on the surface but will still provide power and speed to close on a fish 50-60 foot down and return to the surface quickly? I have been using an about 10 year old pair of mares power plana, short and stiff, no split. Recently got a pair of Cressi 2000HF's that were a world better going deep but could be cumbersome on the surface. NOT looking to break the bank here as this is just a hobby, one trip per summer for about a month is about all we do. Thanks for your time and responses. |

Get a pair of SOFT leaderfins carbons mounted in the footpocket of your preference. You won't regret.

I hate a big angle in the blade for surface swimming. Can anyone recommend a high quality fin with little bend.

I was interested in picking up a pair of leader carbons for shore dives but heard the mediums are equivalent to a soft in many other brands. Would you agree with that? Also what footpockers work with the leaders with little to no modification? |

I have the fins4u.com Pure Evolution (100% carbon) in medium in Pathos footpockets and its slightly on the stiffer side of a medium.
Super durable and perfect for shore dives and not as fragile as many other carbons.

They work well with the Mares footpocket. If you swim a lot and you're not 200+ pounds, the softer, the better.
