He is on his way to hunt in Indiana today. He is looking for monster horns.
This year this area has had a lot of nice bucks show up so he has been picky.Im happy with a few fat does for chili meat and bacon wrapped, honey backstap nuggets.
That buck was shot with a 6.5 Creedmore. One shot stumbled him and he hit him again a few inches from the first shot to put him down. They run down a mountain and its pretty hard work getting them out.Pulling down the mountain is pretty easy with all the leaves helping them slide.
The head is going to be European mount.Sorry for the terrible dolphins logo in the pic.

Nothing like a hot bowl of venison chili after a cold sit. This diving year has really sucked with all the hurricanes, red tide, no vis.. With most of the prized fish now closed season. I'm sure plenty of people have hung up their spear guns till next year. Time to hit the woods.

When I lived in south Florida I liked the winter months the best.Lobster and Stone crab in season and the water didnt feel like hot piss spearing and could sleep on the boat and not sweat all night.
My youngest sons buddy got a nice Indiana buck this morning. If they fill their tags early they may head back.Rented a house for 500 bucks for the week.

Re: It's that time of year again

Son got back last night. They left Indiana because he said it sounded like a war zone and rut had passed.
They stopped in Kentucky on a private piece he has hunted Turkey on and he got a 7 point buck that was around 200#.The son of the guy managing the cattle on the property got a beast.
We have friends coming up to hunt here for ducks and deer this weekend.Im pretty sure everyone will have a full freezer or might need an additional one this year.

Nice bucks! At least put the deer's tongue back in his mouth before you take the picture!

They are grinding up deer and breaking down for steaks and roasts today.Wouldnt surprise me if the oldest son took the tongues for taco meat.Got a buddy that makes smoked Lebanon bologna with venison so he is getting some meat to process.
Lows are around freezing now so the deer will get really active now.

Re: It's that time of year again

Went hunting at the beginning of Nov - my 13 year old son got his first buck after about 5 years of passing up smaller bucks (and shooting does instead).

I found a new backstrap recipe this year and I've made it a couple times, very tasty.

Your son will remember that day for the rest of his life.Funny that after decades of building homes or renovating homes I only remember pain yet still remember my first schoolmaster snapper I speared with a sling as a child like it was yesterday.Your doing it right!

Youngest son got his first black bear this evening.Wind was howling and just above freezing. One shot from the 6.5 entered the chest and out the back.Rolled him down the mountain.

Re: It's that time of year again

Finally got a little time to shop for a sailboat and as we were leaving saw this herd of deer at the mail room. They get treats from the mail lady so they were not going to run away without being fed.
One doe had twins trying to nurse on her and she seemed tired of them pushing her around to get milk.
