Gag season 2024

Looks like gags will probably open late again on Sept.1, 2024. This is still during hurricane/tropical depression time frame. The big unanswered question is for how long will gag season "really" be open? Last year, it closed a lot earlier than announced. My guess is maybe 4 weeks long. Feel free to comment. Not much activity happening on this site.

Just an update. Latest rumor is that there will be an announcement on gag season sometime in late June. The season may only be 1-2 weeks long opening Sept.1, 2024. Also, record number of hurricanes and tropical storms predicted for Florida this year.

My sources indicate around 2 weeks this year but it's not set in stone quite yet.

NOAA FB24-045 Gag Recreational Season in the Federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Season will open Sept.1, 2024 and close on Sept. 16, 2024. That's right. A whole 15 days to harvest gags. Remember, it can be closed early just like last year when the "quota" was met sooner than expected. Hopefully, we will have good weather and seas.

Yep, and 15 days is BS imo especially considering how many Gags are being seen by divers. If we get a storm/hurricane right before or during the opening we won’t get any Gags. Poor time of year to have a Gag opening imo. Or maybe the timing was intentional to limit the number of fish caught.
