Foldspears

I've been eyeing this:

http://www.spearfishinggear.com/Merc.../PROD/P1/FP286

I need something I can brake down and put in a jansport sized school bag. I don't own a car and bike to my water + swim with boogie board with pack on my back to sandbars and shallow water.

Looking for something I can take apart but still lay the smack down on midium/smaller fish - not into deep water. Freediver, 15ft is my max :P

Thanks!

EDIT: Not into slings or smaller guns.

Re: Foldspears

I own an 8 foot one and it is easy to carry because it has a pouch that attaches to your waist and a strap around your upper leg. So it should work for you just fine. P.S. they make a 6 foot and an 8 foot model.

Re: Foldspears

I have a fold spear and have been using them since they started making them. It works just fine and I have taken large grouper with them so I know they will hold up.
I also use it as a back up during lobster season when I don't want to take a gun or larger pole spear with me.

They have good service also.

Re: Foldspears

Another option for you might be one of Ray Odor's aluminum take down poles. They break down into 2 foot segments & thread together for hunting.

Re: Foldspears

You can get the 8' from the website, www.foldspear.com And unlike the screw-apart spears, you don't have to worry about dropping one of the sections while you're out there on your board or in the water getting ready. The whole thing in the holster is only 14" so it will fit in your backpack with no problem.

Re: Foldspears

I suck at using a pole spear but I always carry the FOLDSPEAR with me. The pouch lets me carry it on my hip out of the way but accessible when I need it. It is mostly used as my backup, I have a gun with freeshaft and there have been some instances where I didnt want to fire my gun especially if I was high in the column and had no intention of going back to the bottom. And always another appendage to keep the sharks at bay.

Re: Foldspears

Wayward Son:

I agree that there are a number of break down pole spears with Ray's being one of the best. The problem with taking one underwater when it is broken down is that I then have to assemble it before shooting it and it takes a little time.

The Foldspear is broken down but it "assembles" almost instantly and it already in a great carrying case on my leg. It just seems simpler, easier, and faster than a break down pole.

Re: Foldspears

The gat-ku is a great pole spear also. Just like there can be different guns for different conditions and situations, I feel the same way about pole spears. I personally carry the Foldspear as my "backup" when shooting a gun and during lobster season when I do not want a gun with me. I look at the gat-ku as a primary device when I want to use a pole spear instead of my spear gun or in the Bahamas where I can not use a gun.

Re: Foldspears

How long of a pole spear would you even buy in clear water? Longer the better?
