Marc Valentin?

Any word or feedback on these guns? They look fun and I'm thinking about picking up a <110cm for shorediving.

the Marc Valentin speargun was thr first gun of eurogun modern class, 28mm tube ( the other was 25mm or 1") cassete machanism, they are very acurate but not suport two 5/8" bandsexelent with 17, 5 bands and 6,5mm shaft
the Marc Valentin soearguns was the only non modified gun to win pressition undrwater shotting turnements in Europe, you can see in my avatar a 35 # grouper stoned wuth a 100 cms marc valentin 25 years ago

Re: Marc Valentin?

So would it still shoot well with a single 19mm band?

Re: Marc Valentin?

There was a test on several guns in 2007. It was the year that HammerHead Spearguns won the accuracy test. Although this testing was done several years ago (2007), the testing showed that the Mark Valentine guns were a very close second on accuracy. If someone can tell me how to load a PDF file, I can post the article.

Re: Marc Valentin?

And probably HH paid the magazine to publish the test...

Get that MV! They were the inventors of the french "arbalète" and they still make the very same speargun. 3/4# (20 mm) bands would be too much. I will go with some short 17.5 mm bands and 6.5 mm shaft on that gun.

I don't think so on this. They tested several guns and showed the results. Wish I could find the article, but my internet search has been futile.

Re: Marc Valentin?

I have a 75 cm mv, and I really haven't been able to tell if it's accurate or not. I learned to spear using a midhandle and it could be that I'm just not used to it, but that's just me. Based on the other reviews, I'd say go for it

What I have is an article from Hawiian Skin Diver Magazine that was published on-line. No video. And I looked at the article and found it was from 2005, not 2007. My mistake.

By the way, my reference to HH Spearguns only had to do with helping to identify the magazine article. Please do not ruin this guys thread by using it to trash HH. Keep on topic. The topic of this thread is about Mark Valentine spearguns. Thanks.

Re: Marc Valentin?

No experiance with the Valentine but Seatec uses the same line release that is very simple and works very well.

Re: Marc Valentin?

How's it working for you? Have a friend with a tight budget who doesn't want a franken-gun (Cressi Comanche handle, HH tube, kj shaft, and tinman-copy delrin muzzle).

Re: Marc Valentin?

So the buddy got the marc valentin 100cm and we rigged it up.

Handle, mech, spectra wishbone on threaded parallel bands, 3-pin heat treated stainless spear, very nice for the $$. Muzzle line holes and guides not so well executed, but workable after some tuning. Reel is a mixed bag, but will do.

One glaring issue, surprised this hasn't been mentioned before. The line release is a real p.o.s. Very thin (0.8mm!) piece of sheet metal, on a pivot, held down by the spear. Burrs on all edges. Nicks the line with only minimal contact. Out comes the shapelock...
