Unable to load new spear gun
So I am slightly new to spearfishing and just bought my first gun a seac sub 75 cm and the band is EXTREMELY hard to load, impossible to load in the water even when using chest and hip maneuver. I am not sure what I can do to solve this problem

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
Dont load it out of the water, do ask someone who has some experience to allow you to watch them do it. You might have to hit the weight pile if its really that hard for you and some one else can do it...

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
There was a time when i too could load a speargun, granted it when i was 8. Toughen up, do some push ups , eat your wheaties and youll be able to load that little gun in no time.

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
Get longer bands. Two extra inches should do it.
Or get some roids....

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
Wear Gloves. The Chest and Hip.. method probably does not need to be used for that size gun.
Wear gloves. Use a Loading Pad, even a Flip Flop under your suit if necessary Position the Butt of the gun in that spot where your ribs come up just below your sternum.. Not on Bone. On Muscle. Wear gloves.

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
Years ago I bought a Riffe No Ko Oi and couldn't load it. I called Jay Riffe and told him and he said he couldn't load it either. Huh? He said you had to do it in a two step process using a rest tab on the shaft. Load half way and then reposition, then load the rest. It worked.

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
A rest tab on a 75cm gun would be king of silly. There is a big difference between a No Ko Oi and a 75cm speargun. But I am sure you realize that.

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
The Seac Sub spearguns come with 17.5mm to 18mm bands. For some, they are harder to pull. Try buying a set of 16mm bands in the same length, which should be about 20cm to 22cm long if you have the dual screw-in type of bands and about 45cm to 46cm if its a single one-piece band. I'll bet you will do fine with them.

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
I had same problem and bounced from the bottom more than once while straining to load....a humbling/frighting experience. What I have found is a good regime of pull-ups or lat pull downs and push-ups will strengthen the muscles needed. Also, bought one of those exercise bands (heavy) and looped it over garage door opener. Every time I walk by it I grab it simulating pulling the speargun bands. Fifteen down to the left hipand hold it there, fifteen to the middle of the chest and hold and fifteen to the right hip and hold. Strength and technique will help....just grab it and rip it!!!

Re: Unable to load new spear gun
Put the butt against your chest and grab the band OVERHANDED with both hands and pull it back. If you try to do it with and underhanded grab it's really hard and awkward.
