after you become a stronger swimmer practice holding your breath on the couch whenever you can next try getting a pole spear then move on to a speargun once you are comfortable. also sharks aren't that scary don't mess with them they wont mess with you. and always dive with a good buddy

PLEASE DON'T practice breath holds in the water or swimming underwater. There are many deaths each year from excited newbies just like you. Yo can pass out underwater with no warning and die. If you practice this stuff in the water first learn the safety rules (elsewhere on this website) and ALWAYS with a buddy who is right there with you watching you. A lifeguard is not good enough, he is watching other swimmers, or might get text message or something else to distract him. This is a dangerous sport if practiced without proper safety skill. NEVER DIVE OR TRAIN ALONE!

#1 get a dive buddy
#2 practice under proper supervision
#3 study regulations, if you catch a lot of fish in and area you can spear try spearing there, thats how i've found some of my best spots
#4 you'll get over sharks with time
