Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle
Thanks. I understand the the right handed thumb rest is removable which will become a universal. Will there be a left handled thumb rest available?

Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle
Same handle. We will announce when the carbon barrels arrive so we can start selling the new gun! Thanks for the inquiry!

Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle
Hey Kavachi: good point, I see what you mean.
I could make a video but, it would be biased anyway. So Majd would be the best person – if he has time. I started shooting this gun while diving with Mario in the DR over a year ago, and I still haven’t missed a fish yet. Thanks dano

Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle
I picked up an Avatar handle and barrel from Mario and built me another invert. It was built with the Ermes invert roller muzzle.
Shooting wise, the handle is comfortable and the mech release very smooth. I do prefer the handle shape of the MVD ZESO handle better as the trigger guard shape doesn't extend as far into the handle as the Avatar does. I keep my guns universal grip as I do shoot both hands. One thing that was nice about the Avatar handle was the bottom hook holds TWO wishbones for me. It seems secure and strong enough. My guess is I got a good 160 lbs+ on that hook. Aside from the handle, the Ermes ball bearing invert muzzle made a night and day difference in power. What was originally setup for reef diving, I can easily to this new gun for light to medium bluewater hunting. If an ono or mahi swam by me. |

Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle
I wouldn't mind at all putting videos on the Avatar and the new Mako. I do have the Avatar but not sure if it is same as the latest version being sold. I'll see if I can get a hand on the latest Mako as well. But to be honest, the development of both these guns I already tested in the early beta stages. The Avatar design was based on information gained from testing this setup
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-sN4pQkWSU From this test a special custom trigger and handle was made so that people did not have to do the DIY setup I had in my test. For many, the modification was not trivial and so that makes life much easier. The muzzle was also modified to make things work better. The only thing missing was the barrel ... which was aluminium. But I think even that is now changed as Mario sent me pix of a cuttle shaped CF barrel. That would make basically everything better ... trigger, handle, muzzle and of course a cuttle shape barrel will work better than a normal pipe. I also did test a very early beta version of the Mako gun and the new Mako version is just improvements on the beta version. That test is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5lP6AmYEn4 In the Mako also the handle and trigger were improved (now same as Avatar) and for the aluminium barrel there is a cuttle shape add on float ... so things should work even better. I think a CF barrel might also be out ... that would make using 8mm shaft and more powerful setups work better. Of course it is best to test the latest version and I'll see if I can try them out. I am confident that they will perform as good if not better than the beta versions. As for the bearings for the Ermessub stuff ... man we went through a ton of different bearing tests. Best was a type of enclosed ceramic bearing with some weird Nitric coating (can't exactly remember). But that worked really good. Only problem with ceramic is that it is very heavy ... so you have to incorporate that in your design. Weight can actually be a good thing if it is incorporated in the design as it can dampen recoil ... but it has to be designed in the entire system of the gun. If I would make a guess ... the ceramic bearing heads are best with CF barrels as the CF offsets the additional weight up front. Last edited by spearq8; 05-05-2023 at 01:21 AM. |

Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle
That would be great if you could test it! Send me a pm about what size, how you want it rigged and a shipping address and we will make it happen!
Thanks! dano
