6 Pound Mainland Lobster

Went night diving on Tuesday and found some great vis and a lot of life. After finding a few legals my friend called me over said the biggest lobster he had ever seen was in the cave below him. I was skeptical but when I dove down and saw its legs I knew it was a monster.
Its hole was small and he had a lot of space to get out of reach but just as I dove down he came towards the opening. I grabbed his legs with one hand but lost the grip just as I was able to get my other hand on an antennae, which fortunately did not break off. I quickly got my other hand on him and shook him inch by inch out of the cave.

He went just over 6 pounds on the scale.

Happy Thanksgiving get out there if you can, the conditions are great.

Had the speargun since we are formally allowed to have one while diving now, but didn’t shoot it, just stabbed it with the tip. It’s only about the second cab I’ve seen in 6 years of diving.

I would advise against knifing a cabezon only because of the high probability of not getting a good stab. you would more than likely just wound the fish and not land it.

Congrats on your awesome bug by the way!

Very cool.

Can't believe the resident SB police haven't been on you for that push. ....maybe they are out diving for once?

I reviewed the SB code and have determined that there is nothing wrong with a well executed push.

OP - that is a very fine example of how to properly push a decent bug and make it look twice as big.

Nice work

I think its because he kept it "Real" with a 6lb weight. Instead of doing the push and then looking at the picture and saying it was 12#

I should have added. This is beyond very cool. Always been a hope of mine to come across a random massive lobster. One of my bucket list things to do is find one. Congrats.

Actually, I’ve never lost a cab I’ve knifed. It’s stupid easy. They just sit there.
