Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
I think one of those little short JBL's in the >$100 range would be useful for blasting sculpin and such in the rocks.

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
i have a very simple opinion on this subject. i have checked out the new jbl's at the l.d.s. and from what heard from other locals they work great. i personally have a sea hornet (and any opinions on that subject unless positive can be held, thanks.) so ive never used a jbl personally i do have a voit though, thats older than me. its short and works great on the shallow reefs here on the central gulf coast. but i believe that the simple fact of the matter is that if you like jbl, great, if not, voice your opinion and move on. i feel like some of the people who have made several posts on noobs are spending way too much time worrying about how they will have to scroll down half a page to read what they want. and if thats the case you are spending way to much time online and not enough time in the water. and spearfishing is what this is all about remember. everyone had to be a noob at one point. so just let it ride.
oh and i know im a noob THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
When people have nothing to say except parrot what they have read elsewhere then I think one can safely disregard such opinions, although it is dignifying them to even call them that. JBL have put is a big design effort and made their own advances, divers should try them, experience speaks louder than simplistic put down comments.

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
I don't want to be too critical but there is enough information out there for any builder to make a working gun.
JBL has no excuses for what it has produced until now. They still don't understand the physics of guns (only the marketing) but the new version at least has a working mechanism. The shafts are good but the wrong diameter. Let's not talk about the bands or the insane back extension.

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
Okay, what is the big deal about the "insane extension"? It is ther for people who prefer to hip load their gun, and I have seen many custom blue water guns with solid wire wishbones, they are certainly better than those articulated finger shredders. There are many different guns out there to suit many different needs, if you don't like a gun, don't use it. I have killed many fish with a JBL, biller, Mako, hawaiian sling, pole spear etc... if you are able get close enough to a fish you can use whatever you want.
I myself am glad to see JBL making an effort to change their Rep for the better, and their new Mech is certainly a step in the right direction. |

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
Ive been freediving and spearing with this gun a lot ... and guess what .. It easily and efficiently kills what ever I aim it at ... Its fast and responsive .. Why bitch and moan about a gun that you dont have or havnt even used ? I also know people that are still using their freaking antique JBLs and continuosly killing fish ..
Like I said before ... Its not the tool that makes the master but the master that uses the tool.

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
I have a sawed off magnum woody, the new version with the "better" trigger. I never had the old one or any other gun for this matter but it is really hard to get the shaft to lock into the trigger mech. I have to push very hard against a hard surface. The trigger pull is nice tho. The problem is with the way to line attaches to the shaft with the slip ring. The shaft creates a lot of friction as it's being rub against it. The tip it came with isn't very hydrodynamic either. I have already upgraded from the 3 bands it came with to two 5/8ths riffe bands. I just filled down the notches so not to cut the cord. I plan on ordering the elite versions open muzzle and finding a smaller diameter shaft with shark fins. The shooting line it came with seems fine but would switching to a double wrap of 300lb mono be worth it? Which had more power the two 20" 5/8th bands or the three 20" 9/16th(?) bands it came with?

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
I just got back from Dema and the new jbl guns looked really good. I wanted to buy one at the show but they were all sold out. The new trigger mech. is much improved. shark fins on the shaft and nylon wishbones. kind of looks like a riffe but half the price!

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
Saw them at DEMA also... they have made great improvements, but they still have a way to go to compete with a railgun.

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns
I forgot to mention the 1950s slip ring! Wow!
Do they still use them (not likely if they now use shark fins)?
