Thumbs up JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns

I placed an order with Divers Supply for a new JBL Sawed Off Woody Magnum a few weeks ago. The item was placed on backorder and i was told I would have the gun early the next week. It never came.. I called once again and they told me they have no idea when I would recieve my gun because of the new specs on the gun and possible slow production to fill orders. I was displeased with this so I posted a private message to "JBL Hunter" from this forum. He replied within 30mins ! He called me and told me he had already contacted Divers Supply and that he would take care of the problem and get the gun to me one way or another. He also told me about the new specs and how great the guns are now.

I have a deadine before Oct1st to recieve the new gun. Im leaving on a spear trip that day. Doug(aka JBL Hunter ) has taken customer sevice a step higher than expected. If the gun performs half as well as their rep did, JBL will have a customer for life.

Now I just need the gun in hand...

Tom

If you actually took the time to do any research on here you would have learned that JBL is old, antiquated shit. For the price range you could have bought a gun that is more accurate, has better reliability, not to mention better resale value in the long run. It's no surprise that used JBL's take a nose dive in price after they come off the shelf...why? Because any spearo somewhat half smart knows they are shit. If you still have a chance return the gun and buy something else.

Hi Atmosphere,
JBL is actually putting soem effort into changing both their image and the quality of their guns.

The new model Woodies have got a lot going for them and I guess that maybe you have not "taken the time to do any research" on this new model ?

IMHO It's actually not a bad series and it has increased my opinion of JBL guns.

Thanks,
Mike.

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns

I agree with Mike, I took a look at one of the new guns the other day and it seems they might be on the right track. There are still many things that I would of done differently but JBL is improving their product line. Here is a look:

Heck; I still have my first gun JBL 54 sawed off woody.... with some modifications though

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns

I have noticed that Guns like JBL and A.B. Biller Are Used more On the West coast like California. I have found at least in Palm beach I have a Rob Allan Vecta 1000 Purchased From Mike Damms At Florida Freedivers and its the most convient, accurate, and easy to maintain gun i have found Railguns for me at least are easier for reefs you can control the gun from the handle in and out of rocks so easily. iv used a JBL and having the huge Butt loading pad really gets in the way! Quality may have gotten better But for all around Reef Diving and Bluewater hunting Rob Allan is Great For both

Good Luck!

Good Luck!
Hmm, I dunno about that. Granted, I see a lot of the shorter JBL's, like the 38 NW over here in NorCal, where they're well suited to the bad vis and close shooting into rocks and such, but I don't see a lot of the longer JBL's or Billers being used here. I hear a lot of guys using the longer JBL's for East Coast and Gulf Coast rig diving, where their mass and power are needed.
It also seems like the Billers and Sea Hornets have their strongest followings on the east coast, but I could be wrong.
Glad to see some new stuff coming out of an American company like JBL. I hope they do well and the products catch on.
Ron.

Thanks for the opinions ... It just seems like there are lots of people who LOVE JBL andlots of people who love AB Biller and lots who love ... etc .. There have been tons of people who swear by JBL. So many are so quick to say they suck but why? My AB Biller trigger feels like my fingers are splintering when i squeeze it...

I mean come on guys ... A gun really is a simple machine... Its not rocket science. Its a piece of strait wood with rubber bands and a projectile with a trigger mech. What exacty is so much better from another brand? Is it the wood? doubtful... probably all came from the same trees, the bands? unlikely .. the muzzle? hmm.. not to complex , maybe its the trigger mech? Well... they all handle about the same... perhaps some last longer than others..

Just because you love your brand doesnt mean you should slam the other. JBL has changed a flawed trigger mech as well as a few other specs. Perhaps they were not as stand up as they are now but from what I have seen its a huge step in the right direction. Ill gladly endorse them and until I have a problem, will continue to do so. And I will probably endorse them even if I have a problem. This isnt a perfect world. Sh&* happens. JBL isnt he first company to have a trigger jam or get stiff.

"JBL is old antiquated shit"? And you say "any spearo who is half smart" ?? I guess Im not half smart in your opinion...? Watch who your slamming cus it may come back to haunt you ... Big mouths like you should stay off the board.

maybe people who cant shoot need perfect expensive guns....

if you love your gun or your gun company thats great!.. Just dont slander another ...
One more thing ... Ive never been "into" equipment. If i have a gun and the ability to bring home dinner, then I am quite content. For example, I also play acoustic guitar , ive been playing for almost 20 years. i am CLUELESS when it come to guitars.. i dont know anything about all the brands, makes and models... but if you give me any guitar that will tune, i can play it and make sweet music. I believe its the same with spearing... anyone heard of a supercarbine? Ive killed a LOT of fish with that cheap, ugly, weak busted up speargun.
Its not the tool that makes the master. Its the master that uses the tool. and you can quote ME on that.

Wow, 3 threads about the exact same thing in one day. From the same person. Use the gun and give us a report. Who knows, it may be good, or it may bounce off of fish.

Re: JBL - JBL Hunter - New Guns

For the people that say that JBL's are old, antiquated pos guns and need to get returned and get their money back,

all I have to say is post pictures of the fish you've shot with your other speargun. That is, if you have ever shot anything.

I just won my last rodeo, solely with 2 JBL 450 magnums, as I have done so several times in the past.

I have 2 triple digit fish this year with a JBL 38 special. And I've already posted my pics.

Remember, it's not the arrow, it's the Indian shooting it.

Louis , Thanks for the post .. Its so easy to talk shit and slam JBl... Its wicked that you scored triple digits on your 38special... In the right hand a butter knife could take down an elephant.

Gun should be here on monday or tuesday and in the h2o on Thursday and for 4 days strait after that ... Ill give a full write up WITH pics of the fish who gave their lives in the name of Beer Batter

It seems as though... I'll endorse their products once they redesign their entire line and they endure the test of time. If this were a recovering drug addict everyone would praise their desire to get clean, however not until they've been sober for 5 years or more are they going to be somewhat trustworthy. If they're such a great company with great products why are they in need of changing their image and quality of guns?

Tom, I tend to have an abrasive way of speaking and the half-smart phrase was not directed at you, just in general. I hardly ever read about anyone actually recommending JBL in here. Usually it's Mako or another brand of railgun/euro or AB Biller. Not to mention when people say they are looking to buy a JBL responses tend to steer them away from it.

I made the mistake when starting out as many do and bought a JBL. After the first dive with it I came to the conclusion that it was shit. I've also used a different model that my buddy dives with, same conclusion. I kicked myself for not doing more research and just purchasing a gun that in the end costs almost as much as the gun I have now, yet falls drastically short in terms of quality, accuracy and function. Therefore, JBL has left me with a foul aftertaste and I will continue to voice MY opinion on the subject. You know we're allowed to do that in a public forum designed to spread knowledge and provide a basis of insight into spearing and gear.

Good point? I had no idea that we are suppose to post fish reports and pictures in the gun section. Talk shit? All I ever did was tell noobs to use the search function since the questions they are asking have been beaten to death. Furthermore, why don't you take a look at the California section and you'll soon realize why there is open hostility to noobs at the moment. Even before the shtf noobs were told to search because their questions had been beaten to death. It's pretty ****ing annoying when you open your region's subforum to find the page clogged with threads about crap that one search would yield multitudes of info about.
