Riffe Stable Snorklel

I want to buy the Riffe Stable snorkel but I dont want to buy some thing cheap. Has anybody used this snorkel? I would appreciate some reviews. And also is the clip that attaches to the mask any good ?

Re: Riffe Stable Snorklel

Lots of people, including me, love them. But then every time we argue about it, there are purists who insist that you aren't a real man unless you use a simple J snorkel.

The clip works fine.

The little hood does reduce the amount of water getting in when you swim into a chop.

And I like the accordion feature that lets the mouth piece just fall away from my mouth when I spit it out as I start the dive.

The only thing it lacks for me is a high visibility top, but I fixed that with a can of spray paint.

In other threads some guys have reported leaks too. All I can figure is that the exhaust valve may be leaking. Mine was one of the first ones he sold several years ago, and I've had no problems. Maybe they've changed?

You ought to call Riffe and see what they say.

The valves start to fail after a while, keep it clean, and if possible replace the valve.

Re: Riffe Stable Snorklel

almost all of the snorkels that have the flex tube leak over time....I fixed mine with an electrical zip tie.....the leak is where they join.....the plastic tube either srinks or the flex part expands.....plastic is not totally stable and almost any snorkel unless a truly one piece will eventually leak....

Try zip ties or rubber bands around the point that they overlap...

hope this helps

Re: Riffe Stable Snorklel

The mold excess on the exhaust valve flapper was too long on one of mine and made it keep leaking. I pulled the valve apart and clipped it short with nail clippers and haven't had a problem since.

One thing you should know is that this is not originally a Riffe snorkle. The original was made by GUL as far as I know and if you can find a GULL brand Leila Stable you can save yourself several dollars. No since in paying for the Riffe name if you can get the EXACT same product for cheaper!
