Catch of the day
Yes , I know it's not spearfishing, but I've seen others post some of there tasty delectables. A little to rough for the Gulf today, so I went up the sound
looking for some of my favorite sea food. Beside that I like catching them because it's one critter that can't run from me! Got some nice ones, and better yet, there pretty fat and tasty this year. From time to time there not so hot , and at times, I've had to dump them. For the past three years they've been excellent........ I mostly like them steamed , but will also shuck some for stew. Now if this wind settles down those Reds are going to catch hell. (there almost as dumb as the oysters) Latter

Excellent! Is that scotch you're washing them down with?
I would be into them with some lime juice and a good sippin' tequila...

Re: Catch of the day
That's just good old beer,on ice.
Too bad about your beds up there Murk. I've heard that part of Fl. has the most oyster beds of anywhere. Apalachicola being the premier place. After 20+ yrs of doing this, I can't help noticing the life cycle of these oyster beds around here. One yr the bed is great the next it's dead. Or they look good but after steaming not fit to eat. The bed that i'm working now (and the last four yrs.) is a very mature bed, large but most are dead. I'm sure in a short time they will all be dead, and the cycle will start over again. And I'll need to find another bed, just like in the past. I included a pic of my oyster washer, for those interested. The basket is mounted on a bearing axle to rotate the basket. It then becomes a tumbler witch knoxs off a lot of the barnicals and other junk. Tumbling also allows the water spray to hit all sides of the oyster making them as clean as possible. Up north me and my buds have a old cement mixer converted to do the job. That one will do a bushel at one time. It comes in handy when you've got a 5 to 10 bushel party going on. over&out
