Hey Chad,

How was your recent trip out there? How about some pictures and a repot?

Hey Les,

We are still here, have one more week.

Nothing to report yet, mostly just spearing fish for dinner and poke, if I get anything post worthy I'll send ya some pics.

Aloha,
Chad

Re: Visiting the Hawaiian Islands?

Headed to Kona next week to take Martin Stepanek's level 2 course. Planning to pack a couple of guns and gear. Would like to get in a afternoon or two of shore diving and a full day of diving on sunday the 20th. Anyone interested in hooking up to dive?

Re: Visiting the Hawaiian Islands?

I am currently in Kona area for a few days. Would love to hook up with somebody tomorrow if anybody is interested/willing. I only brought my gun, mask, snorkel, so without a wetsuit I will probably only make it an hour or two, tops.

Just send me a pm if anybody is game.

Also, anybody know where I can rent a flag? Mine was too big to fit in my bag.

Edit/update: realized I should include some brief info on my depth: I'm looking to keep it shallower than maybe 50-60 feet. I've been to about 90 with some bottom time, but really don't feel comfortable diving repeatedly at that depth.

Re: Visiting the Hawaiian Islands?

Didn't have anybody interested, so I went out by myself. In case anybody in the future reads this, it does appear most dive shops will rent you a dive flag. I rented one for $7 for the day.

Saw a few pelagics, but I don't seem to know the trick to getting withing 20 feet of them with a spearfun. Did manage to kill a roi at about 60 feet, so the dive wasn't completely without success. Saw lots more roi in shallower but they were skittish so didn't manage to get a shot on any.

Re: Visiting the Hawaiian Islands?

Aloha Josh,

Thanks for the update and glad to hear you were able to get wet.

I was hoping you could meet up with someone, sucks that didn't happen.

Yes, the Roi can be skittish, you have to take the shot pretty quick, they don't stick around too long. Congrats on the kill.

Aloha,
Chad

Re: Visiting the Hawaiian Islands?

Fis_hunter, i am a certified organic vegetable farmer from Long Island. It's great to support and buy local as often as possible. Not only does it usually taste better due to freshness (harvest to consumption) it's much better for the people and the environment. Cheers

If your on Long Island in the warmer part of the year and need some quality produce check us out- www.sangleefarms.com

Deutschland Spearo, Great info/thread.
