Last Dive of 2019....Was worth it!!

Got the invite to go out Saturday 12/28/19
Ran about 50 miles to 110' viz was 25' and temp about 69 degrees. Dive one just produced a few Mangos for Chris and me. Moved out deeper and his son nailed 2 nice gags and Megan a nice one as well. We looked around and could not find any other fish shows worth diving that deep for, so despite our nice ride out W with the easterly wind, we were now turned SE right into it. Bumpy dozen or so miles to the pipeline. Chris and I dove it, I was only seeing ARS so I headed back up. We had been cruising pipeline together. He got back on the boat a few minutes later with 3 massive hogs and a gag. I couldn't believe it! Well, it was gonna be a bit before I could dive again. Alex and Megan dove and got some more fishes, then I got my last chance of the day and made the most of it!!
Definitely a stringer I will not forget!! Have not shot 2 hogfish this size before on the same dive. Shot 2 nice gags as well and 2 other Hogs. We ended up with 6 nice gags and 6 Big hogs. Another 6 or so hogs and several nice mangos. Epic day for me. Appreciate the opportunities to be out so much this year, so thanks to everyone who let me dive with them!!

Here's some video of the dive. Definitely why I carry 3 spears!! Would not have liked to have been without a spear when the big boy came rolling through! Could use some fish ID help. Not sure what that other guy was. I was leaning towards Jack Crevalle

Nice report with some solid fish. I'm not sure which fish you needed help ID'ing...all I seen was Hogs and Gags.

Re: Last Dive of 2019....Was worth it!!

Thanks guys!! I'm still super stoked and on cloud nine for sure! Had some of the big Hog last night for dinner that my wife cooked up. She took some spinach artichoke dip and reduced it and topped the hogfish with that after cooking the fish in garlic, salt, pepper, egg wash and grated Parmesan. It was great!!

Getting ready to eat the grouper cheeks and smoked Kingfish from the keys trip earlier this month.

The video gets degraded a bit with the transition to You Tube, so ID of the fish will be too hard I think from what I posted now that I watch it on this platform. I can see it just ok with my Go Pro straight to high def TV. The fish comes in just before I shoot the second gag straight down in the head. It was zipping around pretty quick down there. I think it was Crevalle Jack, Chris thinks maybe Permit.

Sweet, Dave - you sure have bounced back from your surgery! How deep were you for those hogs? Sure would love to nail some that size myself some day.

Jesus dude...take it easy. Don't need to rub it in anymore.
I don't know about the more seasoned guys, but IMO, it's rather rare for a Jack Cravelle to be out that deep. I'd expect a Permit before a Jack. You sure you didn't see a Mutton Snapper? They can get very light colored in clear water and confuse one's self. I know I lost big one down in the keys freediving. Xtrodinary specimen. By the time I figured out what I was looking at, it was gone.
