Re: Need a spot
DAE,
It's a common name for the 40 fathom contour (240'). It runs basically from the Panhandle to the drop west of the Tortugas. It's not 240' everywhere, some places it's 220' or so and others it's 260'. It's also not a 300 mile long continious break. It breaks in some places up to 30' tall and rolls down in others with no straight drop at all, just a slow gradual descent. Just look on a bathymetric chart for the offshore Gulf and you'll easily see it. It's farther offshore to the north and closer to shore down south. It's a great place to troll for big pelagics on, if you have a boat that can safely fish it. And of course, it offers fantastic bottom fishing as well. Summer months are usually the best (and have the best weather on average). Good luck if you go.....

Re: Need a spot
Probably a local name for a 60' Ledge.....maybe someone caught 240 Lbs off of it or maybe it's a 240 degree course off a pass to get to it. Might even be ledge #240 in someones plotter...who knows? Can't help you with that.

Re: Need a spot
Naples Spearo is correct it is called the 240 ledge because of the heading degree, I have personally never been but lots of ole timers talk of it and it is also a great spot to shoot nice fish!
