Best boat trailer jack
Hi Guys,
I would like to buy the best trailer jack without breaking the bank. I have a small 17' x 115 HP center console boat in a trailer and the jacks I've bought don't last any long. They get blocked or very hard to operate no matter what. I always rinse them with fresh water after each use and grease them well with a grease gun. Please let me know your input and where to buy it on-line. Thanks!

Re: Best boat trailer jack
I don’t use a jack to change a trailer tire, I use a an aluminum wedge ramp instead. It only works with a tandem axle trailer though. If the front tire is flat you place the ramp behind the rear tire and simply back the trailer up and the rear inflated tire rolls up the ramp which in turn lifts the front tire off the ground. It makes changing a tire super quick and easy.

Re: Best boat trailer jack
I think I wasn't clear. Language barriers...
I meant the Swivel Mount Trailer Tongue Jack with a wheel that is in the front part. Like this one:

Re: Best boat trailer jack
I prefer this style and end up swapping the wheeled style on all my trailers.
https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Jac...CABEgJTpPD_BwE May be overkill for 17' boat/trailer but I find they hold up much better. |

Re: Best boat trailer jack
They are flimsy but that being said I don't roll my trailers around on the wheel as they are larger 25' double axel trailer. I can see how the wheel is convenient for smaller more mobile trailers.

I've been happy with this wheel so long as you have the space to properly install. Regular greasing is still necessary.

Re: Best boat trailer jack
NO need to spend a fortune! Buy an inexpensive two wheel trailer jack from Harbor Freight.
The reason your jack is breaking is that you are probably parking your boat at an odd angle. What you MUST do is: 1. Find a small tree stump or cut a piece of 4X6 piece of wood that is two inches from your boat trailer- just past the point where the hitch ball is free from the trailer. 2. Then, let the trailer down onto the piece of wood, thus alleviating the pressure off of your jack. I used to have the same problem as you and that is how I fixed the issue. The jack I am using is from Harbor Freight and cost me $45. My boat weighs over 5000lbs and I have been using this jack going on three years now. There is nothing wrong with it to this day. I just continue rinsing it each time and grease the splines periodically.

Even the expensive Fulton Aluminum jacks that cost over $200 won't last you the season. If you find yourself having to move the trailer around, buy a tow dolly- they are not that expensive and they work slick.
