Re: New Deep Scuba Record
15 hours of decompression for a 12 minute dive. How did anyone figure out that schedule of decompression? Just staying warm and hydrated for that long under water was a feat all by itself.

1090' descent in 12 minutes or about 90' per minute. That's moving for that type of dive.

Re: New Deep Scuba Record
The details are interesting to say the least. About a 34A dive. Just for fun, say he has a surface air consumption of .75 CFM, then at the deepest point, he'd be consuming his breathing gas at a rate of about 25CF a minute! Of course these figures are just an example but you get the idea.
He'd also need to be on around 4% O2 and 85-90% HE. Very very dangerous stuff! Quite an accomplishment......

Re: New Deep Scuba Record
The math and blood chemistry and absorption rates and gas mixes for various depths all make my head spin - plus logistics, costs, etc.....
Like you said, a stellar accomplishment that I doubt will be equalled any time soon. It must have involved an immense amount of planning and money and forethought to be able to come out alive. Somebody did things exactly right - there is no room for any error in something like that.

Re: New Deep Scuba Record
Article said he bailed out before hitting his target depth. Forget what the condition was called but it's crazy scary stuff just planning that dive.

Re: New Deep Scuba Record
I'm not sure I see the point! That's like setting a new world record on highest jump off a building onto concrete...
