Tobago here I come. Any tips or info?

Hello
Im taking my family to Tobago for a bit over a week at the end of March. Im really stoked on the trip from what Ive seen in pics and video. From what it sounds like the culture and vibe of the island is right up my alley. Im looking for information on the following:

Best part of the island to stay for good shorediving. It looks like the North most end of the island is good but I cant find any info on where its kosher to spear.

Recommendations for lodging. Im looking for both conventional guest house/hotel/apartments, as well as palapa beach hut, camping style.

Recomendations for hikes, dinning, beaches, and anything else I should know

Info on Marine Life protected areas, and fishing regulations (can you really spear lobster?) and licences needed

Info on crime or spots to avoid. Im an experienced traveler, and Im sure from what Ive read its a more friendly and safer than parts of the town than I live in, but it never hurts to gets tips from those in the know.

Info on local dive shops that might have spearfishing gear, or larger size gun rentals.

Local divers or dive guides who might be willing to show me the ropes.

Thanks in advance

jeremy

i went there last year in jan on a spear/surf trip, i ate speared fish everyday. Mt. Irvine area is where i was based. Very mellow reggae vibe. Enjoy! Legendary "white boy" is in the aree. He knows the spots but most likely will be reluctant give them up, plenty of boats in the irvine bay for @ 20-25 us per hour. The thing is finding the the bigger fish outside the reefs is said to be difficult because all the chaos from the swell sends then far out. But many fish especially Barracudas!

You'll have a great time in Parlatuvier. Talk to the fishermen that come on the jetties in the evening and they may take you out, you may even being able to dive the FADs for dolphin & wahoo.

I should be going to Tobago in May also. I may just bring my pole spear and do some shore dives. Nix are there any restrictions on polespearing from shore in Tobago?

Re: Tobago here I come. Any tips or info?

No restrictions on pole spears or spearguns. Don't tell customs you have a speargun if you have one. Say it's fishing equipment. The fish in Tobago can be wary, so a pole spear will make getting many fish quite difficult. I generally try to use a bigger gun for Tobago both for the distance you may have to shoot and the size of fish you can encounter. You won't always come across big fish though and the hog snappers can be easily taken on pole spear.

Good luck
