Save the Talapia part II; crawling in the murk for crabs cab and caviar
My sister in law told me she had fed my 3 nieces "frozen talapia from Costco" after a dive where I passed on some game looking for something better and then struck out. It doesnt take hearing that twice for me to convert the comment into a killing and feeding spree. Unlike some expert novices on the forums, I dont think sharing my catch is unethical. I think if we can save just one tilapia we should...
Over the past 3 weeks I've had some ok dives and some in some really crappy conditions, I've still managed to bring in some prime chow; the species list being: Sheepshead crab, kelp crab, crabs with caviar, octopus, 3 species of perch, halibut, panda shark (what I call a leopard shark when talking to kids who's parents have a heal the ocean bumper sticker) 2 species of rock fish, calico, giant kelp fish, and opihi. I dont know why there isnt an opal eye on the list... I've been macking down, and tonight had 3 crab cocktails with caviar and horseradish cocktail sauce for dinner. The cab is probably going into the smoker tomorrow. There is a lot out there to eat that isnt conventional game fish, and still is really good chow Jeremy

The crab row is beautiful. If I had the patience to dick around with those things I would take them. I know some spots where they are everywhere.

Fabulous. You find some fat kelp crab. I have never tried any Caviar, but you make me want to try

No kidding man, great haul! Those really are some fat kelp crabs, seems like I always see the small ones...I'll have to look up your post about prepping the crab caviar and go get me some...I tried some Turban snail a while back and they were pretty good!

Wow, that looks so good. My only question is do you cook opihi or eat the raw, if you do cook them how. I've tried a few raw and there not for, me but maybe if I cook them it might taste better.
