Deer Hunting in RI
A little off topic but I figure some of you spearos might be able to give me some info here. I got a lead on a nice farm near Kingston RI. Hows the deer hunting in that area? Ive never heard much about, or hunted deer in the state. Any info would be great!
Thanks |

Re: Deer Hunting in RI
I assume you have a RI hunting license. Get a trail cam and check out the trails the farm owner says the deer use to enter the farm. Figure out time of day and what area. Private land is the best and that area has some great deer! Also I didn't check but whats open for private? Gun, Black powder , Bow? If only bow you need a bow card.
If its a real hot spot and you need help dragging deer out of there let me know |

Thanks man im mostly interested in the quality of the deer in the area. If you have a good private piece (100+ acres) that's not pressured and hasn't been hunted what can you expect to find? Is a big deer 130 class or 150+ class?

Not trying to sound like an ass, but you will never know unless you go check it out on your own. Even if a "big" deer down there is only a 130, I doubt that someone knows or would tell you if a 170 or bigger deer is roaming around on the property you want to hunt.
If you talked to the average person around my area, a big deer is anything with antlers. That said, I've seen some BIG freakin deer around. |

Re: Deer Hunting in RI
I plan on heading there in a month or so. I'm just curious what most people that are looking for mature "trophy" deer hold out for. I know some areas where people freak at a 130 and other areas don't even pic up the binos unless it's 150+. Just trying to get a general idea so if I go and see a 130 type deer should I get excited or keep looking. I'm fine passing nice deer to wait for something bigger.
Thanks! |

Re: Deer Hunting in RI
Apparently, Rutland MA is the place you are looking for. A potential new state record was taken there the other day. 198.5 unofficial score is what I heard.

NK has lots of quality deer, up into the 170. NK and South Kingston and all of South County have the largest concentrations of deer in the state.
