Re: Wow - Underwater video and photography have come a long way!
In Boutan's day photography was in its infancy, but to take cameras underwater using the glass plate technology of the time to capture photographs of sights never seen by any but professional hard hat divers must have been an absolute sensation. The modern era of digital cameras both for still and video photography underwater compared to what was used in the early days is comparable to people familiar with gas balloons and dirigibles suddenly coming upon supersonic passenger planes and spaceships travelling to Mars. But for losses of manpower and the best of a couple of generations in terms of losses to the gene pool and energy and material resources squandered in two World Wars we would be doing both by now, despite the technology driver of arms and aircraft developments in wartime.
