My blue water gun build
Hey all, this is my first post on this site and thought I'd start off by posting up few pics of the most recent gun I've been working on.
For this build I'm using Burmese Teak and Its going to be a 1.7m mid handle blue water gun running 4 x 16mm rubbers. Using a Riffe 3/8 shaft with Andre slip tip, Neptonics Tuna Trigger mech with line release, Ramsis handle frame with trigger guard. I made up my own muzzle reinforcement section out of stainless and still have to make up my remote trigger for the push rod and finish routing the rail. Plus I'll need to make up a few other little bits and pieces along the way. I ended up going with a deep open rail instead of enclosed track for this gun, I've done this with the last Blue water gun i built and had very good results with accuracy so decided to stick with this method... Plus enclosed tracks are very hard to get over here in Oz unless you make one up yourself or get one shipped from the States or anywhere over seas which is very pricey for me to do so, need someone over here that sells them Anyway here is a few pics of the work done so far... Acetoned pieces ready for lamination Laminated stock (used west system epoxy for gluing) Deep open rail to fit 3/8 Riffe shaft Routed the slot and pinned the Neptonics mech into place Routed line release slot then drilled and screwed it into place Last edited by Bretto; 07-07-2009 at 02:30 AM. |

Re: My blue water gun build
Routed the recess for the Ramsis handle to sit flush with the stock
Routed most of the push rod rail, I'm going to make the remote trigger before i finish off the rail Made up the Muzzle reinforcement section yesterday and routed the slot, still have to do a bit of work on it filing, polishing, pinning it... etc etc Will add some more pics and info once i make more progress with it all Cheers, Brett Last edited by Bretto; 07-07-2009 at 02:33 AM. |

Very impressive. Looks like you have some serious skills. How long is the thing? Also, which part of OZ are you in? The handle and trigger guard are beautiful! Where can you get them?

Once the gun is finished the stock length will be around 1.7 Metres/67 Inches long... Around 2.1 Metres/82 Inches from the butt to end of the slip tip. I live about an hour north of Sydney on the Central Coast in New South Wales. Yeah the handles are really nice and I'm very happy with the quality of them, you can get them from... http://niledivers.com/shop/index.php...e959817c996fab Or... http://www.scubasworld.com/proddetai...handleandguard |

Nice touch with the muzzle reinforcement. How did you make it?

Re: My blue water gun build
Looks good, and it looks like someone knows how to work with stainless.
One thing I would change is the teeny little set screw for the line release pivot with a 1/8" piece of stainless pin. After test fitting the parts a few time I ended up stripping out the allen head on mine. Drilling out the screw was a bitch, but I finally got it and pinned the release instead.

Re: My blue water gun build
I also chose to pin the line release on my neptonics tuna mech. Seems a lot easier to drift out a pin then deal with a stripped out hole in the wood. Lookin' good man....

Re: My blue water gun build
Thanks for the complements guys
Also thanks to thereefgeek and CalIslandhopper for the advice on changing the set screw on the line release, this is the first time I've used the Neptonics mech and a screw like this to set it into place and the last thing i want is for it to strip and have problems with it. I will have a look around and see if i can find some 1/8" stainless pin. Tin Man i will add a little info later on for you about how i made the muzzle reinforcement, just late for work at the moment and got to get going. Thanks again guys and i will keep you all updated with the build as i progress with it all. Cheers, Brett |

Re: My blue water gun build
Got a little more work done on the muzzle today. I pinned the stainless reinforcement section into place also drilled and routed the hole for the 4 x 16mm rubbers. Going to work on cutting the slot in the stainless tonight for the bridles to fit through the front of the muzzle and will hopefully route the slot in the timber tomorrow if i get time. Still need to polish up the stainless yet as well!

Re: My blue water gun build
Just finished cutting out the the bridle slot in the muzzle reinforcement (needs a bit of filing done yet) and made the remote trigger. Next step is to route the slot in the timber and file up and polish the reinforcement section.
After that i will most probably finish off the mid handle section and start doing some work on a small wing kit for the gun and handle pieces to fit the handle frame. |

Re: My blue water gun build
Didn't take any pics of the process but this is how i did it...
Firstly i started out with a section of 6mm 316 stainless flat bar. Then it was off to trim it all up to size using the mechanical hack saw machine at my family's workshop. I had to drill the appropriate size holes for a rough angle of the bends before i could make some of the cuts. Once it was all cut to size i used a air compressed dermal to trim all the corners and get the angles right. After that i measured everything up for the 16mm drill holes to be done for the rubber, done 3 separate holes and cut the middle section out with a grinder and trimmed up to size with the dermal again. Just needs a bit more of a touch up and a polish it should be done |
