Out of JP on Friday 5-31-24
Weatherman lied again on the forecast. Nothing new about that. Seas were suppose to be around 2' in the am and dropping down to around 1' in the afternoon. It was more like a solid 3'-4' choppy seas with white caps on top of big swells when got to the spot. Leo and I were the guinea pigs and jumped in on a reef in 60'. I followed the sure marker line down to what seemed forever to get to the bottom. The waves and current had pulled all the line out. The reef has plenty of holes, cracks and over hangs. Most were filled up with GUMBO. Horz, vis, was around 15'. Bottom temp. was 81F.. Plenty of baby mangos, a few small gags and a trigger fish. No sharks. I shot a 16" hog fish. Other friends have dove this reef that usually produces. This was my first time. So, I spent some time checking it out. Upon my getting to the surface. The seas had picked up even more. It was no fun as some of you know. Trying to time climbing up the ladder. Got aboard and headed in for the day. At least we got back a lot earlier than normal.
