Gag season came and went

Felt like I closed my eyes for a short nap and gag season came and went this year. Watch next year how short the season will be. You'll blink once and its gone. Wasn't like we had a lot of perfect boating weather either during this season.

Re: Gag season came and went

I hear ya, weather was mostly terrible for the entire opening yet they say the quota was still caught in1/2 the time, I claim BS. This is why I have never trusted their recreational data collection methods. Especially in light of their recent admissions about the Red Snapper biomass being at least 3 times larger than they previously reported. Also there is recent reporting that NMFS has over estimated the recreational catch by at least 30 to 40% for the past 10 years or so. Hopefully one day we will get truly unbiased/competent people to run NMFS or at least get some unbiased/competent folks to act as a trusted auditor of NMFS data. Until then we are gonna continue to get screwed……

Quick edit of the two trips I made during gag season. Got 3 (should have had 4 as you'll see). And for the anti-music crew, this one is for you. Just bubbles.

If you run to the MG on a regular basis you'll be glad the boat has at least 3 engines. Rob, does a couple MG trips a year depending of course on weather and sea conditions. Years ago, a friend of mine on his first MG trip ran out about 80-85 miles. Flat calm seas. He shut down both engines while two divers geared up. The divers got ready to hit the water. He fired up 1 engine and no matter what they tried. Couldn't get the 2nd engine to start . It was almost an 11 hour return trip on 1 engine. What sucked too. Nobody did a dive . They turned around and headed right back.

Rob, what a difference in the vis between the 2 trips. At least you got a few gag fillets in the freezer. Next year is going to be a "really, really, really" short season.

Funny copy paste of the wording of each dive didn't let me change days and depth. First two dives were 10/6 in 65 then 85 feet. Second two dives were 10/10 in 45 then 75 feet.

Great video CatDiver. Shooting Go’s can be very challenging but it looks like you have your skills dialed in.

Re: Gag season came and went

Looks like the hogs and goes are major targets now with just about everything else closed. Next year, I'm sure there will be people using PTO/vacation days for the short gag season. Just like deer hunters for the rut.
After today, one more month of weekend ARS left. The fall/winter fronts are now coming to make for rough seas and stirred up vis.
Also, I'm missing the great Headhunter videos. Another era come and gone.
