Middlegrounds 9/30/21

Very fortunate to get the invite out to the middle grounds. It was a slow day. But very fortunate to get some beautiful quality fish. I'll try to post a video later on. 95-125'. 80' viz. 79 degrees.

LOL! Well thanks. That's kind of you to say.
Very fortunate to get the invite out to the Middlegrounds cause it's a neat place to see and have a big boat to ride out there. Working on video 2 for you guys.

Very nice fish. On our trip we shot some quality fish vs. quantity.

Re: Middlegrounds 9/30/21

Thanks Jim. Definitely agree for when out there in the Middlegrounds Jose. It's an opportunity for an amazing fish, but you might not be the one to see it and shoot it. I found that out the first couple of times out there. Last few have been very fruitful with personal bests, great pics, great meals, and great times.

KB, hopefully you are ready to go again now!

Near the end of video 2 with the silt cloud. I kept wondering when a hog or big gag or maybe a shark would show up. Unless, none were nearby. Then, here comes Mr. Hog to check out what's happening in the neighborhood.

Re: Middlegrounds 9/30/21

Thanks CatDiver,
That roll off was the only area where I was seeing a preponderance of fish, mainly mangos Jose. I knew the first one I shot that got off would be rooting into an area and getting chomped on by an eel, red, etc. Expect that's why it was a bit dusted up when I cruised back. And then as I continued I happened to come across that nice Hogfish headed in. I never saw any sharks on my 4 dives. We had 3 teams of two. Team one saw a shark on dive 1 and Team 3 saw a shark on dive 4 after Adam got that black grouper and I believe on one of their other dives.

Re: Middlegrounds 9/30/21

Those big Hogs often come find you in the Middle Grounds. Many folks tend to “glory hunt” out there and the downside of that is that you do not create what those larger Hogs and Gags see as a feeding opportunity for them. When you shoot smaller fish like Mango’s the sound of them struggling tells those larger fish there is a feeding opportunity over there and they come to check it out. A fish that is in “feed mode” is a lot easier to shoot then a fish that is in “defense mode”. My best advice to divers headed to the Grounds is……get down there and start shooting.

That's interesting advice, thanks! That's something I kind of know, but I often forget in the moment due to inexperience.
