Re: Action in Cuba

Great pictures!!!! Thanks for sharing...I would one day love to visit Cuba when the current regime ends...just praying for that to happen.

I would love to go there with my family someday, I just won't give a penny to the island's government now. I'll have to patiently wait...

Re: Action in Cuba

We got windy weather during the week so that it made impossible to swim in the "blue water", but as usually the visi is incredible.
I plan to be back to Cuba 17/ 24 may, 08. I booked a big fishing boat for 5 days. One day in the reef /40- 70 feet hunting: cubera/ grouper/ snapper and 4 days YFtuna (high season) about 100/ 200lbs. and other great pelagics...
Only one experienced diver is welcome aboard. Departure from Montreal.

A pic taken with one of the best cuban diver and friend "El Chino"( told me that one week ago, he have to fight hard with a 4 meters tiger shark in 5 meter depht! a great adventurer...
An about 70 years old turtle living in a turtle farm and seeming to ask to go back in the sea..

Re: Action in Cuba

Virgili, are your Cuban friends using homemade pneumatics? I'd love it if you could post a few pics of those.

A pic of an home made peumatic gun called sometimes "bulliera" used by an other friend living on the North coast. (Pic taken in 2002 / Archipielago de Camagüey).
"Mares" style gun equiped with a 9 mm shaft. Heavy, noisy, shorty range... but formidable when used by experienced and cunning divers!

A lot of snapper , hogfish, some cubera.

Re: Action in Cuba

That's the kind of visibility and bottom where I began spearfishing. It hurts when compared to what we have here in Miami. Thanks for the speargun pic, it brings back memories. What's the name of the silver fish, maybe white Margate, or some kind of snapper?

BTW where were you, cayo largo, isla de pinos?

Re: Action in Cuba

First day diving after the tropical storm in the Isla de la Juventud area.
On the morning we met by chance in the blue water a sardin run. A mixed small size Yfin tunas and good size bonitos were chasing... A lot of restless bullsharks were looking for a possible fast food. thats made things not simple.
At the time I was filming the run, an about 20 feet whale shark swam under the surface and very close to the boat! Too late for me and I will try to make it tomorrow.
Pics of the run/ sharks.
Pics of bonito/ tuna take with a 100cm "euro".
Pic of some classic atlantic fish taken at 60/ 80 feet depht while freediving during 2 hours ( inshore is outfished by locals).
