Re: Spearfishing St.Croix USVI

Yup..St Croix has lots of lobsters..
But Fish...?
I'd like to hear the story on that fish!
I'm guessing you weren't on any of the reefs, but maybe making drops in the blue water on the north shore and hanging..with flashers , watching and waiting?

Congrats...nice haul!

Thanks...yup lots of lobster and conch .. Lobster is open year round as for fish..ure right not much fish compared to other places but there's fish we got 2 pompano round the same size in 10ft of water this is from a shore dive just about 20 ft from shore at cane bay...there is also lots of mutton and dog snapper on the west end at the drop off also close to shore maybe 20m out but they're very spooky and I'm still working on my drops so haven't had much luck but I can tell u these mutton are huge and in numbers have taken a few @ 50 ft since my diving has been improving so decided I would start a thread on here and start posting a few pictures since all information about the islands is stating that there's no fish... As for bluewater hunting there's definately fish a couple miles out..wahoo tuna mahi etc.. Working on my gear right now so expect lots of pictures and videos in the near future

20 ft from shore on Cane Bay...AMAZING!
Cane Bay is a beautiful dive, and drop off..but seldom any fish seen of size.
And not as many sharks as there used to be. 25 years ago it was thick with hammerheads.

We was a little way east of the drop off at cane bay which is a beautiful dive btw especially to scuba..a few tiger sharks here and there not many hammers but the reefs here are recovering as far as I understand from how you guys describe it from yrs ago..I've only been living here for 5 years now and the spearfishing is not as bad as ppl make it seem..not many ppl spearfish here anymore so I guess not much pressure being put on fish as before especially since recently lot of the good spots where the reefs are rich have been classed as reserves most ppl are focused on lobster and conch because of the amount of money they can make off it

Glad to see you're still slaying.

Any luck with blue water diving? I'm booked for feb 14-21 and will be bringing my gear and will be diving either way, but want to get into those mahi and wahoo if I get the chance
